If you love our first yurt "The Yurt Alpine Retreat" you will love this yurt too. It is on the same mountain ridge with similar views to the other yurt.
You can experience some of the best viws in Victoria right here. We are situated in the Victorian High Country on a 345-hectare working cattle and sheep farm surrounded by natural bushland perched on top of a mountain in one of Victorias best wine-producing regions.

After driving up a steep dirt track through natural bushland teeming with kangaroos, wombats, rabbits and deer, you will burst onto a plateau with amazing views. Fantastic panoramic walks or explore the adjoining bushland.

In the morning you will hear the sounds of many birds including beautiful King Parrots, black cockatoos, kookaburras or you might see a family of eagles hovering overhead or a white deer if you are really lucky. At sunset you can see kangaroos, wallabies, wombats etc.

In the evening enjoy the sounds of silence while drinking some local wine, there is good mobile coverage at the yurt but limited access in other parts of the property.

In the evening you can sit by the campfire until its time for bed, the stars are unbelievable you will be able to see them through the glass dome of the beautifully furnished yurt from your very comfortable bed. Lots of wineries to visit, Lake William Hovell and Paradise Falls, Powers Lookout are all nearby.

YURT DETAILS
The yurt is situated 20 minutes from wineries, no supermarkets for 40 km. though so come prepared.
There are a general store and a pub 15 mins away though.

The yurt itself is beautiful and unique, cosy in winter with the Mongolian wood stove for heating. The yurt has a 5cm thick pure wool felt cover underneath two layers of canvas which keeps it warm in winter and cool in summer.

There is a gas BBQ and a small camp stove inside the yurt. You can cook on the open fire but not in summer using the cast iron pot. There is a large battery operated fan for the summer months. There is a great outdoor wood heated bath with great views of the mountains.

You will find most things you need including linen, cutlery crockery and cooking utensils. There is gas hot water in the rustic shower which has great views of the mountains. There are also flushing toilets.

No public transport though.
There are many tourist attractions in the area, including Paradise Falls and Powers lookout or the Ned Kelly Trail at Glenrowan and lots of wineries.

When you reach Evans Lane, just come straight up the lane don't turn anywhere until you come to a gateway with a sign saying the yurt alpine retreat on the left and a red letterbox on the right our driveway is immediately past the sheds on the right. If you come up to the house I can take you up to the yurt and explain how things work.

I was really excited about this staycation when looking at the photos of this lovely location. The view was breathtaking and was the draw card in choosing this location along with the unique Yurt expe...rience. After having my booking accepted I was informed the primary yurt was unavailable but an alternative was. On arrival we discovered the alternative didn't have the amazing views and was in fact more in a valley than on top of the hill. Whilst it was still nice, it would have been appreciated to have been informed the location was markedly different to advertised and the opportunity to rethink the choice. The yurt was nice, cosy and fun to stay in. Double bed was saggy and we enjoyed the enforced cuddling in the center of the bed :). Sharon was welcoming and provided initial guidance to how the yurt operated. Close to some great wineries. A fun alternative stay in the beautiful King Valley region.

What a wonderful experience! I highly recommend the yurt. It was exactly as described and more. Sharon was a lovely host and gave us helpful local tips. At the yurt we saw beautiful sunrise, sunset, w...alked around the vineyards, cooked bbq on the grill and enjoyed star gazing at night. Nearby, we swam at King River, visited a few wineries for wine tasting and delicious local food. On the last day we visited the stunning Paradise falls. There are so many more to explore nearby, and it was lovely to come back to the yurt after the day’s adventure.

Powers Lookout

Harry Power, last of Australia’s infamous bushrangers, was captured at his hideout on 5 June 1870. Today it’s a popular spot to visit both for the superb view of the King Valley 300 metres or so below and for its part in Australian bushranger history and its connection with Ned Kelly, in particular. Pack a picnic or take a thermos for a warm cup while you overlook the valley and imagine life as a bushranger.

Paradise Falls

Discover a land of breathtaking views, spectacular rock formations and cascading waterfalls. The impressive Paradise Falls have a drop of some 31 meters to the creek bed below.

William Hovell Dam

Lake William Hovell is an all time favourite in the King Valley. The lake offers a picturesque recreational area perfect for BBQs, walking and hiking, fishing, canoeing and four-wheel driving activities.
