Additional Information
Fig Tree house was initially built in the early 1950's with an additional wing built in the 1960's and was originally named Marama. We were fortunate to purchase it from the original owners. We renovated and lived in it for three years while building our current off grid house - Howes Creek Homestead designed by Kirby Architects which you can view on Pinterest.
It is located in an established high point of town and you can see views of Mount Buller when you arrive. It is a beautiful and spacious house with views of the established garden throughout. As soon as you enter the front door you are greeted by a large entrance/ hallway and views to the internal courtyard garden.
The sitting room has french doors that open out onto a grape vine covered terrace where you can enjoy long lunches. The sitting room has a fireplace to sit next to where you can play a game, chat or read a book. It also has a smart TV if you want to kick back on the sofa and catch up on a movie.
The garden is a great space for children and is full of herbs for cooking.
It was established back in the 1950’s and is a botanical feast. Pick a lemon in season to add to your gin and tonic or some fresh warm figs in the warmer months.
It is lovely to lie on the comfy sofa in the sunroom and read a book or just gaze out the window into the enclosed garden. The meditation/yoga room is for quiet contemplation.
The kitchen is set up for preparing delicious food and you can chat to friends as they sit around the table having wine and cheese before dinner. It has an AGA but isn’t currently in use. It does have a 900cm Westinghouse gas/electric oven that is fabulous for cooking. The kitchen is well equipped. There is also a BBQ on the terrace. You can also curl up on the window seat with a book and a cup of tea!
The 1960's wing has a bedroom and ensuite. The queen size bed has lovely linens and cotton sheets. The ensuite has a deep bath that looks out onto the garden and is lovely to soak in while contemplating the outdoors. All bathrooms are supplied with Dindi Natural soap dispensers and organic shampoo and conditioner. The 1950's wing has two bedrooms and a shared bathroom. One bedroom has a queen size bed with a linen doona cover and cotton sheets that look out onto the internal courtyard and lush gardens. The second bedroom has two single beds with all cotton bedding. It’s a bright and sunny room. The forth bedroom is outside and is like being in a tree house. It has linen and cotton bedding. There is a desk in there but please note this will only be unlocked if you book for 5 guests.
The laundry/mud room is conveniently located on the back terrace next to the kitchen and is a good spot to leave ski boots and has plenty of room for your pet to sleep. There is a bed for your pet. if your pet would like to be in the main house please let me know and we can discuss access areas.
The house retains many of the original features. We have provided DVD's, books and games to make you stay enjoyable. It is an easy walk to all the town attractions. Fig Tree House is a great space for all ages. There is a nook for every guest so you aren’t on top of each other. It will easily accommodate families or a group of friends.
Fig Tree House is very well located. It is an easy walk to town where you can explore our great shops and cafes. It is short to the local oval for some exercise or, in the warmer months to take a swim in our fantastic outdoor Mansfield Pool complex. It is a quick walk down the street to go for an early morning walk around the wetlands.
Fig Tree House is a ten-minute walk to the VLine bus stop. Buses depart here for Melbourne all year round and To Mt Buller during the ski season. Fig Tree House is an easy 15-minute walk to our main st or a five-minute drive. It has easy access to the golf club, the Wetlands, Lord’s oval, the tennis club, and the Mansfield swimming centre. I have lived in Mansfield for the last 28 years and after completing a Bachelor of Commerce degree at Monash University, Clayton, worked as an accountant and a primary producer. The family run a pastoral company and hardware stores. We live not far from town in an off grid house on a farm and try to be as self sufficient as possible which although rewarding is a lot of hard work. We have 3 children who all went to the local Steiner school. I still have my youngest there in Grade 3 and am a current board member on the Governance Committee. The older two finished their senior years at boarding school and we have done a lot of skiing, hiking and bike riding in this region. I'm surrounded by a wide age range of young adventurers and I am well placed to provide local information on great ways to enjoy this fabulous area! I was introduced to Riparide by some young Americans who were staying at the hut and thought it was a great fit. I love your site and have recommended it to many people. I also have a house in Mansfield that is half 40's/60's surrounded by a lush established garden which I will list in due course. I want to provide guests an experience that will have them leaving feeling that their life has been enhanced. Big ask but if they get out and do the adventures they are guaranteed to leave feeling better!…
