We offer a unique getaway in our custom-built cabins in Mangawhai Heads, just one and a half hours north of Auckland. This listing is for one of our off grid cabins, designed and built by us. It features a queen bed with top quality linen, a separate camp kitchen with fridge and gas hob, and a stand alone luxury bathroom with shower and flushing toilet. If you would like to rent two cabins that's quite possible on our other listing, but rest assured that if you only book one cabin the other cabin will not be rented so you will have the whole area to yourselves.

Mangawhai itself offers a variety of surf beaches locally, wineries, bush and beach walks, and of course the township with its chocolate factory, cafe, restaurants and golf course. Kayaks, SUP's and electric bikes are all available to hire locally.

Additional Information

Our cabins are off-grid and while they have all the basics you'll need (like gas hob, coffee percolator, refrigeration, heating and so on), we don't have mains power available for hair dryers etc.

The cabins have USB chargers for phones and a 12v supply for computers, but if you need anything charging we can arrange that at our house.

A short but sweet winter break in Mangawhai. The cabin, kitchen and bathroom were clean and had all the amenities you could need. The bedroom has a powerful heating system making it super cozy despite... it being chilly outside. Great location, really peaceful and an easy drive to the beach or into town. We’d highly recommend if you’re looking for a little glamping trip!

Amazing host and lovely facilities. Just perfect for a short weekend away. So close to lovely places to eat and the local walks are brilliant. I loved the bird life and isolation.

Standup Paddle Boarding In Mangawahi Estuary

SUP's are available for hire locally. A great way to explore the extensive estuary.

Local Boating

Mangawhai has a boat ramp to allow access to the Hen and Chicks, Sail rock and other popular dive and fishing locations. We have plenty of room for you to store your boat and trailer.

Mangawhai Coastal Walk

A simply stunning mini-adventure with no shortage of Pohutukawhas trees, ocean views, white sand, and beautiful rock formations.

Perfect for beginners or experts in flip flops, and guaranteed to work up just enough of a sweat for you to want to get straight into the ocean after on a hot summer day, or great to get the body moving on a winter one.

A 2-3 hour round trip, take a picnic or some snacks and enjoy the views on Mangawhai's long white beach from up high and soak NZ in.

There are several walks available in the immediate area. The Mangawhai Heads Cliff walk includes breathaking views of the offshore islands, the Tanikaha track is a beautiful bush walk with several levels depending on your level of fitness and time available. Gentler options include the new mangroves boardwalk.

Mangwhai is a popular surf spot, with other breaks such as Te Arai and Forestry a short drive away.

Te Arai Secret Cove

An easily accessible little gem at Te Arai Beach. A short walk from the car park will get you to a unique bay enclosed by two tall cliffs that make it a cool spot to get a nice view of the surf from, or swim away from the large waves.
