Our trusty Dorothy has been lovingly restored and fitted out ready for you to come and stay. She's a 1968 Bedford bus now residing undercover on our land; 11 acres in the shadow of the Brynderwyns, 5 minutes from the beach and easy reach of the markets, shops, cafes, and restaurants but in a quiet and peaceful location. The bathroom is a separate structure with a flushing toilet and hot shower with great pressure.

Additional Information
Dorothy is a house bus that has travelled extensively in New Zealand. She's now retired (she still runs, so maybe that could change!). The layout works well with a lounge area at the front, kitchen in the middle, and bedroom at the back. The bathroom with a flushing toilet and great shower is a separate structure which is undercover next to the bus.
There's plenty of room in the paddock to relax in. We are currently working on some tracks in the regenerating bush which you are welcome to explore.
One of the best things about starting renting accommodation has been meeting new people and hearing their stories. However, your space is your own, you will be left to your own devices - we are only a text away though if you need anything though.
Facilities are your own and aren't shared with anyone else.
Dorothy the bus is tucked away undercover in the beautiful New Zealand countryside but is within close reach of both the town and beach (a short 5-minute drive from the main surf beach and 10 minutes from town). The surf beach offers great spots to swim and surf as well as many beautiful walks such as the world-renowned Mangawhai Cliffs Walk and the Tanukaha bush and waterfall walk. At the nearby estuary you can hire paddleboards and kayaks. There are also many other beaches nearby (such as Te Arai Point or Waipu) which are ideal for day trips.
Mangawhai Heads and Mangawhai Town are the two 'hubs' of the area. There are plenty of excellent restaurants and cafes in each as well as a museum, skatepark and 'activities zone', several markets and wineries. We have provided a small handbook that includes our recommendations for restaurants and take-out places (as well as copies of their menus). We also provide road maps, tourist information, and recommendations for other activities in the area.
You will need transport to get to our place, but there are shuttle buses serving the area, and more recently electric bikes are available to hire in the village.

We had an absolutely fantastic stay in Dorothy! What a unique and memorable experience.
Cliff was an exceptional host, even taking the time to look for an earring I had misplaced after we departed. H...e shared Dorothy's fascinating history with us and showed us an old New Zealand School Journal featuring the bus. It was wonderful to compare the bus then and now and learn about its journey over the years—such a special touch!
The outdoor bath was an added bonus, providing the perfect place to relax and soak in the beautiful native New Zealand bush surroundings.
A huge thank you to both Cliff and Angela for creating such a wonderful and unique space for others to enjoy. We would highly recommend this stay to anyone looking for something a little different and can't wait to return ourselves!
