Rua Awa Lodge offers picturesque self-contained accommodation set on 20 acres with a mix of gardens, orchards, expansive lawns, native bush, cattle, sheep and views of Mt Ruapehu, Mt Ngauruhoe and Mt Tongariro.

We border a Department of Conservation reserve that resonates with the sound of birdsong, enjoy nature on your doorstep, private access to the Whanganui and Whakapapa Rivers, with great fishing, swimming and walking. Or simply stay put read a book, relax and soak up the classic NZ scenery.

Lots of room to spread out and relax, Yoga studio, relaxation space, outdoor furniture, decks, fire pit and BBQ.
The shower, bath and toilet are attached to the accommodation but are outside the main building.
The bedroom is also attached to the main building but accessed by a 3m walkway.
Homemade & homegrown breakfast provisions are provided.

We live on the property and are available if you need us.

We have a great menu featuring home cooked, mostly home grown, local, free range or organic dinners, grazing boards, BBQ packs and sweet treats...generous serves, delivered to your door or waiting for you on arrival. We are happy to email you the menu so you can order before your arrival, advance notice is required for some menu items.

Kakahi is a quiet rural village with a general store that is open daily.
Rua Awa is very close to Kakahi Glow Worms, we also have easy access to cycle and walking trails.

Your car is the best way to get around, there are local shuttles available for mountain transportation. we offer a shuttle service for guests who are doing the Tongariro Crossing.

We are a working farm with sheep and chickens, if you love the outdoors you'll be happy here.

We provide complimentary Wi-Fi. Mobile signal is good with Spark and Skinny, anything else is patchy.

No shoes in the house please.

Easy level access with parking, please park alongside the large shed to the right of your accommodation, please don't park on the grassed area directly in front of your accommodation.

Please wash all your dishes and leave everything clean and tidy.

A wholesome little countryside escape. From the welcoming outdoor fire and freshly baked cookies to the delicious homegrown meals and generous breakfast, every detail felt thoughtful and full of heart.... We loved the cosy wood fire, outdoor bath, gorgeous yoga studio and peaceful surrounds, with snowy mountain adventures and beautiful waterfalls just a drive away. A special place to reconnect with nature, enjoy the simple things and soak up a little New Zealand.

We visited Rua Awa Lodge for our 1 year wedding anniversary and it was such a lovely stay. We loved how peaceful it was, you can hear the birds and cows nearby its heaven. We fire inside was so great,... it made it so cosy. Sheryl offers catering options which is either locally made or made herself - we ordered the cheese board, bread, oil and dip (the bread was to die for!) and the fruit crumble absolutely delicious, thank you!

Ohinetonga Forest Walk

Native forest and bird songs surround the Ohinetonga Lagoon where you can enjoy a book or picnic. Feel completely immersed in nature as you walk along the track.

Brunch At The Station Cafe

Awesome coffee. Awesome food. Wicked good views... I mean what else more could you want?! A cafe situated at the Waimarino station and we were fortunate enough to see the train arrive and leave again. Was a pretty awesome experience. Friendly staff too. The couch was our favourite spot to sit.

Raging Tawhai Falls

Easy walk to view the Tawhai Falls with incredible mountain views along the way.

Whakapapa Skifield

40min drive to Whakapapa ski field, or venture another 30 mins around the mountain to Turoa skifield.
