Additional Information
The "Retreat" is tucked away in the idyllic Mangawhai countryside and consists of two 'Harthouse' cabins, each with queen beds and attached deck areas. Between the sleeping cabins is a central gazebo with cooking and dining facilities (a continental breakfast is provided free of charge) as well as indoor and outdoor seating. There is a separate bathroom with a shower and toilet, also situated in the central area. All of the facilities are new builds (designed and built by Harthouse) and are in pristine condition. We provide high-quality linens and towels, and the cabins have been thoughtfully fitted out with everything you might need. The cabins have their own entrance with private parking right next to the "Village".
Our cabins are off-grid and environmentally friendly (solar-powered); we have 12V sockets for USB so you can still charge your devices. However, this does mean that appliances such as hair dryers cannot be used. We also provide recycling facilities and eco-friendly products to keep our retreat environmentally friendly!
The retreat has a private entrance with parking spaces. There is a large lawn area in which to relax, as well as a central gazebo with cooking and dining spaces (with both indoor and outdoor seating).
Don't worry - we're close by in case you need anything! Please let us know if you require extra towels for the beach, linen changed, or have any other questions for us.
We have provided a small handbook answering frequently asked questions which you will find on the dining table!
Our cabins are tucked away in the beautiful New Zealand countryside, but are within close reach of both the town and beach (a short 5-minute drive from the main surf beach and 10 minutes from town). The surf beach offers great spots to swim and surf as well as many beautiful walks such as the world-renowned Mangawhai Cliffs Walk. At the nearby estuary, you can hire paddleboards and kayaks. There are also many other beaches nearby (such as Te Arai Point or Waipu) which are ideal for day trips.
Mangawhai Heads and Mangawhai Town are the two 'hubs' of the area. There are plenty of excellent restaurants and cafes in each as well as a museum, world-renowned skatepark, and 'activities zone', several markets and wineries. We have provided a small handbook that includes our recommendations for restaurants and take-out places (as well as copies of their menus). We also provide road maps, tourist information, and recommendations for other activities in the area.
You will need your own car to get around but there are minibus shuttles covering the area in case you would like to explore the local wineries, and now there are electric bikes for rent in Mangawhai.

We had a lovely time. Appreciate Cliff accepting our booking as he wanted to carry work out on the cabin. Unfortunately, when we were there something broke and we had no hot water for showers etc. I w...as a bit disappointed I travelled with my two kids. I was not advised one of the cabins has been moved further away. My son was not comfortable sleeping in it alone so all three of us had to share a bed. With minimum sleep for myself.

Cliff is a very accomodating host. The place is so nice and not so far from the beach and shops. Will definitely recommend it to everyone.

Harthouse cabins are an absolute gem! Our stay was just perfect. Cabins had everything you needed and nothing more, making it a simple yet comfortable stay in beautiful surroundings. We had our two bo...ys (3 & 10) with us and they absolutely loved it here having some well needed time away from devices and our day to day busy lives. Beach was a quick 5 min trip down the road and so were all amenities and eateries. Cliff and Angela were wonderful hosts and were not far away if we needed them. We will definitely be back here. Thank you
