Take it easy at this cozy escape in the woods. The cabin is the perfect place to relax, unwind, and slow down. It's also ideal for adventure seekers. We’re just minutes away from great hiking, climbing at the Index Town Wall, rafting, kayaking, or swimming in the Skykomish River, and skiing and snowboarding at Stevens Pass Resort.

At the end of the day, cozy up inside, read a book, play some games, or soak up views of the surrounding forest from the cabin's six-foot round window.

CYCLOPS (named for the giant round window) is located in a gated community just outside of Index, WA. We built the cabin in the summer of 2021 as a passion project, excited to create a space for folks to come and enjoy this incredible part of Washington State.

Think of the cabin as semi-off-grid. It has some unique systems that may be new to you, but most of the modern amenities you’re used to. Please read the details to make sure it’s a good fit.

Additional Information

There is ample parking in the driveway. Note that it is relatively steep until you get to the top. Each guest will have access to our manual, loaded with information about how to use each cabin amenity. Plus, we've added our suggestions for local hikes, places to eat, hang out, or just grab a drink. If you have any questions, we're always available for a call or text.

Please read the following prior to your arrival.

HEATING: An electric wall heater is the primary heat source. There is also a sweet little electric fireplace to provide a warm, golden ambience.

SLEEPING: The cozy sleeping loft—accessed by a ladder—has a queen-sized Casper bed, Tuft & Needle pillows, and all brand-new linens.

KITCHEN: There’s a refrigerator, an electric kettle, and a pour-over coffee maker. Bring your favorite coffee or help yourself to our favorite blend in the black tin above the sink. We also have a two-burner induction cooktop and everything necessary for making simple meals, including pots and pans, cutting boards, utensils, plates, bowls, cups, and mugs. Potable, filtered water is pumped in from a large tank outside. The bartop in the coffee/dining nook features a topo map of the area with many of the local hiking trails on it.

BATHROOM: The bathroom has a shower and an incinerator toilet. There’s a small hot water heater that’s great for short showers, not long ones ;) and there are instructions for the toilet. It’s super easy to use. We provide towels, soap, and shampoo.

WIFI: Yeah, it is sloooow—sufficient for receiving WIFI calls and texts and light browsing, but not for streaming movies or downloading large files. We kind of like it that way. As such, we have books, cards, and board games. Plus, there’s a TV with a DVD player and about 20 movies to choose from to keep you entertained.

SECURITY: We have a security camera on the front porch to help us keep an eye on the place and stay up-to-date on local weather conditions.

HOUSE RULES:

Check-in: 3PM | Check-out: 11AM

GUESTS:
Maximum of 2 guests, including children. Children aren’t recommended given the incinerator toilet and steep ladder. There is a $40/per night charge for undisclosed guests.

FIREPIT:
Fires are only allowed when burn bans are not in affect (typically during summer months). Please keep fires to a reasonable size and never leave fires unattended.

NOISE:
Please don’t be super loud. (We’re in the woods, but we still have neighbors close enough to shout to and we want to be respectful.)

SMOKING:
No smoking inside. This includes weed. And please, if you’d like to smoke on the porch, make sure all doors and windows are closed so the smoke doesn’t sneak back in.

PETS:
Unfortunately, we do not allow pets at this time.

PARKING:
Please don’t park anywhere in the Mt. Index Riversites other than our driveway.

CHECK-OUT INSTRUCTIONS:

- Check-out is at 11 AM
- Hang dirty towels on the hooks near the shower.
- Clean and put away all dishes, or leave them drying on the rack near the sink.
- Remove all items from the fridge and freezer.
- Shut all windows
- Lock the door

WINTER: Make sure you are prepared for snow if you are visiting in the winter. If snow is in the forecast, we highly recommend you carry chains or bring a vehicle with 4WD. The cabin is about 1.5 miles down a gravel road. It doesn’t always get plowed immediately, and the cabin’s driveway is on the steeper side. Please check the weather, and reach out if you have questions about reaching the cabin if it will be snowing during your stay.

We are Patrick and Bryan, two friends who built Cyclops together in the summer of 2021. A few years back, we both decided to quit our desk jobs to pursue carpentry and woodworking. We wanted to find a way to blend our love for the outdoors with our passion for building things. A cabin seemed to be the natural extension of that, and this cabin is the result. We really love how it turned out. We hope you do too, and that you have a great time staying here.
