Additional Information

The charming & stylishly decorated loft has a kitchenette, wood stove (wood provided), queen bed in the open loft & a 26" wide daybed, and a full-size sofa sleeper on main floor. Cozy, rural, quiet, and comfortable! Leashed pets welcome as long as they are not left alone in the loft. (A $45 pet deep cleaning fee per dog, with a limit of 2, applies). The bathroom, eating space, kitchenette, and wood stove are on the main floor and the sleeping area is upstairs in the open loft. The Loft has a spectacular view of the Sound. There is a queen bed and a narrower 26" wide daybed upstairs that work for a small adult or child, and a double sleeper sofa on the main floor. There is shaded sleeping platform at the water’s edge for summertime siestas. There are stairs and a trail to the south-facing, fabulous, private beach. Orcas sometimes visit, seals and otters pass by, deer nibble outside your door ( mostly on my roses!) and there are eagles perched in the trees. The beautifully landscaped property is ideal for quiet getaways —it feels remote but is just 20 minutes from the ferry. There are great restaurants, wineries, horseback riding, and mountain biking and hiking trails nearby an Pt Robinson lighthouse is a 10 minute walk along the shoreline or through the forest ( or a 2 minute drive away). This quiet and special place awaits you! And, in case you need more convincing, Lisa is one of the top Super Hosts. If you have any questions, please ask!

If the loft is booked, or you want to invite more family or friends to join you, consider the two other guest spaces on the 40 acres: The Coach House at Wildwood (sleeps 4), the Forest Cabin ( sleeps 3 and has an outdoor soaking tub), Bluff House, Wildwood Barn Studio (sleeps 2). It is a short walk 5 or less walk between the cottages. Each is private, unique and fabulous in its own way. To see the other cottages and an overview map of the full property, click on my profile photo or on the icons near Loft & Beach on the map to see photos, availability and pricing of the Coach House at Wildwood or Wildwood Studio.

The Loft and bluff yard are available for celebrations of up to 65 people (weddings, reunions, family celebrations, birthdays, photoshoots, film use, etc.) Inquire for availability and pricing. Loft & Beach and Bluff House is an ideal location for small events: baby showers, weddings, birthday celebrations, reunions, film production, photoshoots, etc. Don’t worry: for wedding/event days all the cottages are booked with the event, so you won’t be bothered by an event nearby if you book just one of the cottages!
and all the cottages are booked, so you won't have an event going on if you book just one or some of the cottages.

Vashon Field and Pond, the entire 40-acre property along with the cottages and Bluff house can be booked for larger events (up to 500 people). The exteriors and interiors of the cottages and the property have been featured in The Seattle Times Pacific Magazine, Seattle Bride Magazine, Country Living Magazine, Sunset books, in catalogs (Cutter & Buck most recently) , advertisements and in film including Anthony Bordain's "No Reservations" (aired Nov. 19, 2017 on the Pacific Northwest show). Celebrities have chosen to be married on the property - it is truly a stunning place to be! We are very familiar with how to coordinate details of large and small productions and events to assure your time here is a success and exactly as you want it to be.

PLEASE NOTE: Summer Saturdays are blocked on the calendar until April 30th for weddings and other events to book. After April 30th the cottages can be booked separately from the venue for summer weekend dates.

The kitchenette consists of toaster oven, microwave, hot plate, crock pot and small refrigerator. There is a propane barbecue outside the loft, another propane bbq at the beach, and a fire pit with wood provided at the Loft and another on the beach (you can collect firewood on the beach).

Creekside Restaurant at the Vashon Island Golf & Country Club is 6 minutes away. May Thai, Earthen, Gravy, Bramble House, Snapdragon and the Hardware Store Restaurant are all fabulous restaurants in the town of Vashon, 15 minutes away. Minglement (at the corner of Cemetery Rd. and Vashon Hwy), Burton Coffee Stand and Cafe Luna (1/2 block west of the 4 way stop in town) have espresso, muffins, etc. Gather gallery in the town of Vashon has amazing local art, and there are several other galleries to enjoy, as well. The Chamber of Commerce, Vashon Allied Arts and Vashon Events are great resources for things to do during your visit to Vashon.

Firewood is provided for the woodstove. (There is electric heat as well). Firewood for the beach can be collected there. If you use wood from an existing woodpile by the beach fire pit, please collect more to replace it. Pretty much everything you need for a picnic is in the metal bins down at the beach. Help yourself, but please wash and put away whatever you use. There is an sink, outdoor shower, and a portable toilet at the beach for your convenience.

Laundry service available at $10/load.

Rates are listed as single occupancy. There is an additional charge for more people to cover additional water, sewer, trash, etc. Visitors not allowed for insurance reasons, without prior written approval. There is a day-use fee for guests. Pets must be leashed at all time and never be left unattended inside.

Visit the Vashon Chamber of Commerce, Vashon Events, or Vashon Hub websites for things to do on the island. There are art, garden, solar, farm tours, Strawberry Festival, wineries, breweries, Nashi Orchards and Dragon's Head Cideries, bike rentals, hiking trails, equestrian events, trail rides and riding lessons, fishing, beachcombing, picturesque Point Robinson Lighthouse tours, Island Center Forest or Dockton Park Trails for mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking or jogging. Kyaks can be rented at Burton Beach, and the water there and at Dockton Park gets warm and is very swimmable in the summer. Horses can be boarded on our property with the Wildwood studio rental for $75/night, and riding on the beach to the Maury Island Marine Park is exquisite! If you have your own kayaks, they can be easily launched from Pt. Robinson or Burton Beach. We have 2 kayaks that can be rented for paddles in front of the property for $25/pp.

Art Lessons (painting, photography, drawing, ceramics), trail rides, massage, facials and day spa services can be arranged - fees vary.
*Bring a pair of cozy slippers so you can leave your shoes just inside the door. Rubber boots or other outdoor-mud friendly footwear is a must during the wetter winter months.

* You are free to walk anywhere on the property, but avoid walking on 43rd Ave. SW. The field, pond, beach and trails are for your enjoyment. You can walk back from the lighthouse and take trails from the first driveway with the chain across it on your right as you walk up the road, take a right on the trails through the forest that come out by the barn, and walk down the driveway to the right of the big house to the loft. You may also walk up the road from the beach if you'd prefer them to the stairs, but take a left at the top and walk back to the loft. The horse field next to the loft is fine for you to use.

*There is a small duck pond in the yard and a very large one next door. CHILDREN MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY PARENTS AT ALL TIMES when they are outside, especially those that don't yet swim. Horses on the neighboring properties are friendly, but have big teeth. Please do not approach them unless accompanied by Lisa.

* Please park to the left of the garage, up near the loft door. (Do not park anywhere in the area behind (west of) the garage doors.)

*Smoking outside only. Please don't leave butts in the yard! Put them in a jar of water outside the door of the loft. Please don't take extinguished butts into the loft as they leave smoke smell when in the trash inside.

*Septic system is fragile and VERY difficult to repair, so please don't flush anything that isn't designed to go in the septic tank: NO plastic, paper, hair, tampons, pads, diapers, etc. (The full damage deposit will be charged in the event a repair is required as a result of something in it that shouldn't be.)

*Pets with additional charge: please bring the $45 pet cleaning fee ($60 for 2) at the time of your arrival if it hasn't been paid with your reservation. The upstairs floors are unfinished plank so they are not good with pet accidents... Dogs can be free at the beach, but MUST BE LEASHED IN THE YARD for the sake of the ducks, bunnies, cat, etc. in the yard. Dogs may not be left unattended in the Loft unless crated. If you are bringing a big strong dog, it is imperative that you can control it on a leash when it is "tempted" by the animals on the property: deer, raccoons, rabbits, fowl, other dogs, horses, llamas, etc.

*There is a propane barbecue available up by the loft for outdoor cooking, and picnic tables and a fire pit and another barbecue with a grill at the beach. Beach wood can be burned at the beach, but please collect wood from the beach and replace what you burn if you use wood that is next to the fire. (The planks piled up on the bulkhead are NOT firewood - they are for building furniture...) The beach is shared space, but if we are down there you are always welcome to join us or have your own fire at the other end of the bulkhead.
* Our house is about 40 feet away from the loft, so someone
is around most of the time. We are happy to do whatever we can to make your stay comfortable and memorable, so do text or call if there's anything you need.

* Check to see if there is a burn ban prior to lighting the wood stove.
If there is no wind for a few days, a burn ban is sometimes in effect (sometimes when it is foggy and still for a few days). The fine is $1,400 for violating Puget Sound's Air Quality authority! Yikes!

* Upon booking your stay with us, you assume all liability, risk and responsibility for any accidents or injuries to yourself or others in your party, regardless of cause, that may occur while you are on
our property. You, your guests and pets are visiting the property completely at your own risk and agree to hold property owners
harmless for any and all injuries and accidents that may occur, regardless of
cause or fault. Unmarked hazards, including
but not limited to slippery or uneven footing, rugged terrain, primitive stairs, un-fenced ponds, water, fires/fire pits, a potentially hot wood stove, a tall bulkhead, swings, trampoline, unpredictable animals (horses, dogs, chickens, ducks, etc.), exist.
By booking you agree to assume all liability, expenses and legal fees that may result from any incident(s) during your stay, including but not limited to property damage and bodily injury.

*By booking this property, you, the Renter, agree that you are personally responsible for your safety and actions while on or using the Vashon Field and Pond property, cottages, or facilities. You agree to comply with all VFP policies and rules, including but not limited to all policies, guidelines, signage, and instructions. 2. I agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Released Parties from and against any and all costs, expenses, damages, claims, lawsuits, judgments, losses, and/or liabilities (including attorney fees) arising either directly or indirectly from or related to any and all claims made by or against any of the Released Parties due to bodily injury, death, loss of use, monetary loss, or any other injury from or related to my being on or using the facilities, tools, equipment, or materials, whether caused by the negligence of the Released Parties or otherwise specifically related to COVID-19.
3. You understand that there are some facilities, equipment and materials that will be shared with other guests, including but not limited to the kitchen facility at the beach and the beach toilets. The use of shared facilities can increase the risk of COVID-19 for users. You realize that it is strongly advised to wear a face covering at any time you will encounter any other non-family guests or people at any time you are on the property. You also understand that it is strongly advised to clean and sanitize the areas that I use both before and after using, with the cleaning and sanitizing agents provided. You understand that there is a 3 hour space between the check out time of previous guests and check in time for myself.
4. You have read the cleaning guidelines listed above and accept them as adequate.
5. By reserving the property you acknowledge and represent that you have read the foregoing Waiver of Liability, understand it and sign it voluntarily as my own free act and deed, including without limitation the Release of Liability and Indemnification requirements contained in this document; you are sufficiently informed about the risks involved in using the property and have decided to sign this document; no oral representations, statements, or inducements, apart from the foregoing written agreement, have been made; You are at least eighteen (18) years of age and fully competent; and you execute this document for full, adequate, and complete consideration fully intending to be bound by the same. You agree that this Waiver of Liability shall be governed by and construed in accordance with Washington law, and that if any of the provisions hereof are found to be unenforceable, the remainder shall be enforced as fully as possible and the unenforceable provision(s) shall be deemed modified to the limited extent required to permit enforcement of the Waiver of Liability as a whole. This waiver remains in effect until the State of Washington lifts all COVID-19 related mandates.

* The property is for the enjoyment of registered guests only. Please refrain from inviting additional guests to come for the day while you are staying at the property. A visitor or two are generally not a problem, but please check with us before inviting additional people to the property during your stay. Weddings, parties, reunions and other celebrations or events for additional people require extra insurance coverage.

* Quiet hours are from 9:00 pm - 9 am, which means loud voices and music need to disappear so they don't bother neighbors.

Please do your dishes and put them away, and turn the heat down to 40 before you depart.

Enjoy Vashon!

Ceramic Artist, Equestrian, Academic Coach, Traveller, Vashon Native... The 5 acre Cottonwood property was established in 1890 as a farm for growing strawberries, cucumbers and other vegetables and transported to Seattle via mosquito fleet ships. In the early 20th century the ships were replaced by trucks that crossed the water on ferries to and from Seattle. Today, the island is still accessed by ferries that run from Pt. Defiance (Tacoma), Southworth (Kitsap Peninsula) and Fauntleroy (West Seattle). The Cottonwood Studio (sleeps 2-3) and Cottonwood Farmhouse (sleeps up to 9) may be rented simultaneously for up to 12 guests at a time, and there is camping on the back portion of the 5 acres available if you have a larger groups or event to host.
