Thank you for staying with us. Please let us know if there is anything we can do, ANYTIME, to make your stay more comfortable.
In an EMERGENCY: DIAL 911 from your cell phone. 18913 Vashon Highway SW, Vashon, WA is the address. The studio is attached to the back (west side) of the white house.
Fire Extinguishers: There is a fire extinguisher inside the tall cupboard on the right nearest the entry door, a white one up in the loft, and Tindra in the upper cabinet to the left of the stove. KNOW WHERE THESE ARE. There is one in the laundry shed, also. Smoke detectors are in each bedroom and the landing area, and in the main living room there is a co/smoke detector. Emergency Exits: Upstairs: climb out windows or use stairs. Main floor: Front entry door.
Basic First Aid Kit is in the bathroom medicine cabinet.
Parking: Continue past the tall lattice-top fence and park behind it, near the entrance to the studio. The studio is attached to the back of the farmhouse and is WHITE. The brown building in the back is a shop/office.
Door Entry Code: Enter the last 4 digits of your phone number on the keypad to unlock the door. Pressing the schlage logo lights the keypad. To lock it when you leave press the Schlage logo and the bottom right icon on the keypad will lock the door.
Shoes: Please remove them before you come inside. Set them on the right, on the cement floor under the cabinet just inside the door.
Septic System: FRAGILE: Please flush only toilet paper. Anything else will damage the system and back it up. (Calls to plumbers and down time for removal of items from the plumbing will be charged to occupants.) Please use the trash next to the toilet for EVERYTHING except toilet paper.
Power Outage: Headlamps are located inside the cabinet door to the right of the stove and in the nightstands. Please return them where you found them after use. We have additional batteries should you need them.
Dogs: MUST BE LEASHED AT ALL TIMES (and prior to getting out of the car). There is an additional pet fee of $45 per pet per stay which covers basic cleaning. By bringing an animal onto the property, you agree to be financially/legally responsible for any pet-related issues to your own pet, other pets, people, furnishings, carpets, doors, walls, floors, etc. NEVER leave dogs unattended in the studio. Please bring dishes, doggie clean-up bags, and a bed for your dog and clean up after your pet. Put bags in the metal trash can near the laundry shed.
WiFi PASSWORD: 2064984359
Trash: Trash and trash bags are under the kitchen sink. When full inside, put them in the metal can outside by the laundry room. Please let us know if the metal cans outside are full and we will empty.
Supplies: We are happy to share what we have with you if you need something.
Electric Heat: Be sure nothing is blocking either the wall heater or fireplace/heater. Please turn off the fireplace when you are not in the house. Be sure the fireplace is and the wall heater are both OFF when you leave.
Propane Barbecue: The tank below must be on and then the burner dial turned on and it will light either with the ignitor button or a lighter. There should be another tank available in the laundry shed should you need more that we can bring to you. Keep the barbecue at least 3 ft. from the building and anything ignitable to minimize fire risk. Please clean the bbq grill and cooking utensils after use and turn off the propane tank valve. Additional propane is in the metal shed.
Outdoor fire: Keep them SMALL. Fires are allowed in the metal fire pit between SEPT. 15 & JUNE 1. There is water by the parking area to extinguish fires when leaving them unattended. Be SURE THE FIRE IS OUT COLD - i.e. you could touch the ash with your bare hands - No steam remaining. We have wood scraps that we put there sometimes, otherwise, please supply your own wood and firestarters. You are fully responsible for any fire damage, so pay attention to kids, size of the fire, and put it ut cold before you leave it.
Open Flames (fire table and bbq are ok) are not permitted on the property due to fire risk between May and October 1st.
Smoking is allowed in the gravel parking lot area only. Put cigarette butts in water to extinguish completely - ideally in a can or bottle outside the house because taking them inside will make the house stink. (There is a $250 fine for smoke smells inside the unit at checkout.)
Things to Do: Check out the Vashon Chamber of Commerce, Vashon Events, Vashon Parks District, O-Space and Vashon Allied Arts websites for things to see and do while you’re here. Vashon Adventures has bike rentals and maybe kayaks. Westside Stables (463-9282) offer horse and pony riding on trails or lessons. Spyders Sports and Vashon Bikes have bicycle rentals. Kayaks and paddle boards are available at Jensen Point through the Vashon Park District.
Restaurants you might want to look up, in particular order: The Hardware Store (outdoor seating in summer), Gravy, The Ruby Brink, Snapdragon, May’s Thai, Vashon Island Golf and Country Club (has a beautiful view of the golf course and outdoor deck in summer). Check on-line for hours and menus. Thriftway in Vashon town has groceries, fresh seafood, deli, etc. Vashon Baking Company and Snapdragon have fabulous baked goods and cakes.
Hiking/Biking: Island Center Forest has miles of trails. Turn left out of the driveway, take a left on 188th, and the entrance is at the end of the road. Dockton Park has hiking/mountain biking trails. The Maury Island Marine Park has gorgeous views of Mt. Rainier and a long hike down to a gorgeous beach. Point Robinson lighthouse has a great beach that you can drive to, as does Lisabuela Park, Jensen Point and Dockton Park. (Dockton and Burton have swimmably warm water in the summer.)
Children must always be accompanied by an adult when outside the house. It is fine to go back into the field behind the shed and north and south of the house. Please be considerate of neighbors by keeping your distance from the farmhouse and observing quiet hours from 8 pm to 10 am. You are welcome to walk your dog in the back field area.
CHECK OUT is 11 am. Please turn OFF the wall heater and the fireplace, wash and put away all dishes, and double check under the bed, outlets, and bathroom to be sure you have all your belongings.
Drive slowly and carefully on all roads, especially at night, as there are DEER EVERYWHERE and they often jump onto the road unexpectedly. If you see horses, bicycles, and pedestrians, please slow to 20 MPH and go around them slowly and carefully.
Please let us know if there is anything that we might do to improve your stay. We appreciate your comments. We hope you can visit again someday...Lisa

Super cozy, quiet, cute studio. It had everything we needed for a weekend getaway. Lisa was easily reachable by phone when we had trouble unlocking the unit. Conveniently located, just a couple minute...s from a lot of great restaurants (we really enjoyed May Kitchen and The Hardware Store!). Looking forward to visiting Vashon again!

This little spot is great and we had a lovely time! It is very conveniently located and the property is really pretty. The giant willow tree outside of the studio is gorgeous and adds an element of pe...acefulness. I had the opportunity to meet and chat with Lisa just before leaving. She is very friendly and communication leading up to and during our stay was excellent. I look forward to staying here again!

The 5 acre Cottonwood property was established in 1890 as a farm for growing strawberries, cucumbers and other vegetables and transported to Seattle via mosquito fleet ships. In the early 20th century the ships were replaced by trucks that crossed the water on ferries to and from Seattle. Today, the island is still accessed by ferries that run from Pt. Defiance (Tacoma), Southworth (Kitsap Peninsula) and Fauntleroy (West Seattle).
The Cottonwood Studio (sleeps 2-3) and Cottonwood Farmhouse (sleeps up to 9) may be rented simultaneously for up to 12 guests at a time, and there is camping on the back portion of the 5 acres available if you have a larger groups or event to host.

This Must Be The Place
If Vashon has a 'place' that must be the place, it's Snapdragon. Freshly baked bread, pastries, and artfully curated dishes are what you'll find here. This place feels like your grandma's kitchen but bigger, like the mega-version of its already homey and perfect self. There are live music performances here, a cozy sidebar, two patio areas, and an epic collection of vintage furniture and retro decor. I can only say great things about this place.
Italy On Vashon Island
It's impossible to not sing the title of this local pizzeria –'O Sole Mio'! We were greeted with a slice of tiramisu as soon as we sat down, which was fine by us! You could tell that this is a favorite spot among the locals and it felt like a combination of a pub, a 70s dance club, and an Italian restaurant. We sat under a disco ball and drank cocktails while working our way through a huge, and very delicious pizza. This place was simply fantastic!
Mountain Bike And Road Bikes Welcome
Bring your own or rent on the island. Dockton Forest Trails, Island Center Forest, and the rural roads are great for biking.
The Butcher Knows Best
Calling all meat and ramen fans – go to The Ruby Brink! These were probably the best ramen dishes we've ever had. I even doggie-bagged the rest of my broth so I could take it home and freeze it for future use. The entire restaurant smelled like heaven and the environment was tasty, moody, meaty, and just super delightful. The cocktails were on-point too, while the staff were friendly, very knowledgeable, and willing to mix a cocktail for me just for the purpose of good photos. A must-eat spot on Vashon Island!
Gotta Love A Lighthouse
A day that started with some surprising snow turned into a sunny, warm, outdoor-adventure day. We headed to Point Robinson Lighthouse, sat on the beach and drank canned Negronis while watching a seal swim by, with the puffy clouds artistically illuminated by the sun. This park, beach, and lighthouse are quintessential PNW.
