Happy Summer!
Creating my indoor and outdoor spaces for contemplation has been a joy of creation over these 16 yrs of ownership. Summer is the ideal time to enjoy all of nature's gifts. Come to MiKo's Guest House to rekindle your relationship with your self— and loved one... Awake to the sounds of bird songs. Bring a good book and sink into nature's outdoor living room, just off the cabin's deck. Meditate or do your yoga stretches outside under our Meditation Hut (yoga mat provided!) Enjoy the woodstove. Soak in the hot tub. Walk to nearby trails. Cook in our fully stocked kitchen, or take a leisurely 20-minute walk to "town" to dine casual (inside or out) at our many farm-to-table restaurants and brew pubs serving meat-eaters, vegetarians and vegans--often featuring live music on weekends. Additional Information
Vashon Island and MiKo’s Guest House have been a haven for solo travelers and couples seeking respite from WFH and the stress & challenges living under COVID restrictions; and we want to keep you, me, my cleaners, and all the guests that come after you, safe.
MiKo's Guest House has successfully served guests for more than 7 years; rated #1 on TripAdvisor for Vashon Island for a 6-month stint back in the day...
In addition to our "funky, yet charming rural getaway," we offer on-site solo & couple retreats, for those wishing to deepen their relationship with self and one another. Your host, Karen, is also a professional, certified, credentialed coach and offers special coaching packages for guests. Go to InnerCor dot com for details.
A **2 night minimum** is required to enjoy a bit of our paradise, but on average, most guests stay 4-5 nights.
Limited to 1 person or 2 people (due to grandfathered small septic system and 1 queen-size bed). Sorry no pets!
This is a special place: quaint, with lots of light, privacy, apple tree, raspberries, strawberries, raspberries, cranapples, and horse chestnuts (fruit in season), with a maintained yard, surrounded by tall trees and fenced along all 3 sides providing privacy from neighbors and your host, who lives in the humble home you pass as you drive up—situated just 40-feet away from the cabin, separated by bamboo fencing and gardens to ensure privacy.
Includes hi-speed Wifi (at 120 Mbps, you can take video calls and stream videos for both of you), water, PSE electricity, garbage, and recycling service. Note: there’s no TV-intentionally.
Plenty of seasoned wood for the wood-burning stove or outdoor fire pits (when a burn ban is not in place). Weber BBQ.
This is ideal for a couple wanting a romantic getaway, that’s only a ferry ride away, without the long waits of the San Juan islands. Cozy up with a good book. Or spend a week and get a heads start on that novel that's been in your head. A writer's paradise. Quiet, contemplative and peaceful.
Or come and enjoy the island's art scene. Music and theatrical performances have reopened, including special documentaries, live streaming of National Theatre at Home and Metropolitan Opera at our iconic cinema, and community treasure, The Vashon Theatre! You can enjoy the talents and gifts of our eclectic community, as well as plenty of organic foods/farm stands, great, cozy coffee houses and Roasteries, nurseries, and the famed Country Store with Little Bird to get your green thumb inspired, along with bookstores, a fantastic library (we're part of King County), and enough trails to walk to feel like you're in the middle of nowhere, with beaches to stroll along to enjoy the sunrise on one side of the island, and sunset on the other, running into the friendliest people you'll ever want to meet!
Additional information:
1.**Our grandfathered septic system offers a fully flushing toilet. HOWEVER we ask that you refrain from disposing TP or baby wipes or anything else down the toilet except for "what come from your body." We do have a handheld bidet sprayer that guests love for that "extra clean" feeling, and container with lid, lined with plastic for your soiled TP.
2.** No smoking either inside or anywhere on premises** (Vaping outside okay.)
3. Fully furnished with full kitchen: from sheets to towels to plates, cutlery, every kitchen utensil you could want, spices, books, DVDs, games, puzzles, playing cards, art on the walls, to outdoor furniture (in season).
4. Sorry, no W/D in the cabin, and our long-time laundromat in the town just permanently closed. However, your host is happy to allow you access to the W/D in the main house.
5. While staying, enjoy the fruits on the property or the veggies in the garden (when in season).
6. Four (4) grocery stores to choose from--2 within walking distance--and VashonEats delivers many of your favorite meals right to the cabin's front door! Go to Vashon Events org TO GO for what's open.
7. Please rinse off in the inside shower before entering the tub. Hot tub is "clothing optional" (Vashon is tolerate this way!) We respect your privacy and choice. But do know that the hot tub can create (unharmful, but annoying) foam on the surface when oils, sweat, or soaps remain on the body or on your clothes (due to residue left over from laundry soaps).
8. "Quiet hours after 10 pm" while in the hot tub please. Because we have little-to-no "light pollution," voices--especially with the jets on--"carry".
9. Prefer no shoes on the carpeted portion of the cabin. Kitchen okay.
10. Robes are provided. Suggest bringing your own flipflops or outdoor slippers for the short trip to the hot tub. Check-in: After 3:00 pm, Checkout: 12:00 pm. Not suitable for children and infants. No smoking. No pets. No parties or events.
11. Our nearby amenities for rent or day-use include the following: eBikes, Kayaks, Pool, Sauna, and Gym. eBikes (to get up Vashon's hills!) can be rented with a 10% discount from Vashon Adventures (ask me for the discount code). And guests can access your Host's lap-pool & full gym membership including onsite hot tub and dry sauna -- located less than 1 mile away at Vashon Athletic Club -- for $13 per person per Day Pass. Ask us for the Membership # at time of check-in.
At the time of your booking, please acknowledge your compliance of our
3 main rules:
1. Fully vaccinated & boosted.
2. No TP, baby wipes, Kleenex or anything other than bodily fluids down our fully functional toilet
3. Rinse off prior to using the hot tub; and refrain from using the hot tub immediately after a massage (due to the oils)
We look forward to welcoming you to some much needed respite, disconnecting from your usual daily life, and indulging in some "me" time (or "we" time)!
You can enjoy access to the area surrounding the cabin -- including the meditation hut, path to the hot tub, and park right next to the arbour's entrance (at the end of the driveway next to the sheds.)
When you are "out and about," we may be in the back with the raised vegetable bed, or using the garbage and recycling containers. Otherwise, we’ll leave you to your privacy.
You will have sole access to the hot tub between the hours of 7 am - 10 pm. (For longer guest stays -- 5 days or more-- we will ask permission to use the hot tub when you're not using it. As guests, you always get first dibs, of course! )

I give my guests space but am available when needed.
I have lived on the island since 1993 (16 years owning this property)--with the past 7 years trapsing back and forth from my work based in the Middle East, to my landing pad and "sanctuary" here at MiKo's Guest House. Ask me anything and consider me your personal concierge about "all things Vashon-Maury Island related", for I bring 28 years experience living on our little slice of paradise in the middle of the Salish Sea; and as a former member of our Vashon-Maury Island Chamber of Commerce, I love supporting our local small businesses and farmers.
Thank you for shopping at our local restaurants, grocery stories, various farm-stands dotting the island, and the various unique boutique shops!
I ran MiKo’s Guest House before the days of Airbnb, when it was #1 (across Vashon Island) on TripAdvisor over a 6-month period., and I know how to honour guests' privacy and boundaries.
I can have as much or as little interaction as you want or need. We are also available by phone, text, or email to answer any of your questions 24/7.
- your host, Karen
ABOUT
Since 2006, I've own my property with 2 small houses on a 1/3 of an acre on this artsy & touristy island (pop. ~11k), called Vashon Island, a short ferry ride to West Seattle (Fauntleroy Terminal), Port Orchard (Southworth Terminal) or Tacoma (Point Defiance Terminal). I currently live in the "main house" 40 feet away from the cottage, separated by bamboo fencing to ensure privacy for both of us. Before the days of Airbnb, I ran the cottage as "MiKo's Guest House" (named after my beloved, departed Standard Poodles, Mimi & Koko) for 6 years to great reviews and referrals, including being "#1 on TripAdvisor specific to Vashon Island over a 6-month period; so I delight in providing excellent customer service!
PRE-AIRBNB DAYS
From April 2014 until Sept 2020 (first working & living in Calgary, before transferring to the Middle East), I would stay in the cabin myself during my annual monthly August visits back to island life.
MY OWN LOVE OF TRAVEL
Since these past decades I have travelled extensively (both domestically & internationally, leisure and business) --staying at high-end hotels, chalets on beaches, or quaint Airbnbs in cities and remote areas, I know it's the "little touches" that make guests feel taken care of and welcomed. I pride myself in providing timely, accurate communication to my guests, leveraging my knowledge that comes with 28+ years of living on this quirky island in the middle of Puget Sound, as well as being a business member of our Vashon Chamber of Commerce. Supporting local, small businesses is key to a thriving rural island community.
WHY MIKO'S?
The cabin and grounds nourishes my body and soul. I can get my hands dirty in the garden, and continue to create an artful, cozy, comfortable place surrounded by nature. I delight in creating colourful outdoor living spaces in the warmer seasons. And I value places that are efficient, comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. I'll treat your home like I treat mine, with respect and love, and ask that you do the same at mine.
WEARING MY COACHING HAT
When I'm not greeting or attending to the needs of my guests, I run InnerCor Global, LLC, a human capital boutique coaching and consulting firm--with offices in the Middle East as well as here in the USA, coaching executives & leaders virtually and locally, across 3 continents and multiple time zones.
I now offer my coaching services to my Airbnb guests for those seeking a deeper dive into themselves and their relationships, with personalized "solo retreats" or "couple retreats" for those seeking a more profound journey, in addition to the lovely "get-away-from-it-all experience" MiKo's naturally provides.
OUR COMMITMENT
Ultimately, I know both what guests need, and what makes a good host.
I look forward to welcoming you to my colourful getaway here on Vashon Island, bringing you my intercultural hospitality.
Welcome! Salam Alekyum! Bienvenue! Welkom! Bienvenidas! Benvenuta! Bine ati venit! Willkommen!
