Up Fish Creek

The weekend arrived and we were headed for Fish Creek. We made it to the Old Dairy, tucked in the hills just beyond town, ready for some relaxation and adventure. The Old Dairy is a funky, retro-styled home full of plants and gorgeous light. It has everything you need for a comfy weekend away exploring the beauty of South Gippsland and nothing you don't. It's supremely warm and welcoming with its down-to-earth decor and thoughtful presentation. Plus, our lovely host Helen provided us with fresh eggs, fruit, veg, and herbs all picked from her garden, which we used all weekend.

We spent time in the sunny courtyard and picked some apples from the apple tree before cooking a delicious dinner. As night fell we lit the fire outside and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings. With just the sound of the fire crackling, we watched the last few stars above as the full moon rose and illuminated the night sky. The perfect way to spend a Friday night.

The next two days saw us catching the sunset at the nearby Mt Nicoll with the local kangaroos and wallabies. We played Connect 4 as a family and visited the pristine South Gippsland beaches including Wilsons Prom. We witnessed our fair share of wildlife and beautiful sunsets, soaking up all this region has to offer. We were Up Fish Creek and bloody happy about it!

We decided to check out the sunset from nearby Mt Nicoll. Only ten minutes away from the Old Dairy, this was an easy choice. A short five minute hike through bushland leads you to the top for panoramic views of the surrounding hills and towards Wilson's Prom. The golden glow over the hills was phenomenal, we watched the sun go down with the local roos and wallabies.
Sunset is my pick for the best time to visit. The drive up the hill is a little steep on loose gravel and may not suit smaller cars.

A stunning stretch of coastline awaits fifteen minutes from the Old Dairy. We picked Sandy Point beach for a nice morning walk and some cool ocean air. Whilst not quite swimming weather, we still ended up a little wetter than planned. The whole stretch from Sandy Point to Walkerville is worth a look and we enjoyed a cruisey drive to check out the South Gippsland coast....

Wilsons Prom is a must when down this way. The weather was warm, with little wind, so it was a perfect day for the Prom's beaches. A controlled burn thwarted our attempt at visiting Whiskey Bay or Squeaky beach, so Norman Beach in Tidal River was the go. A great beach for swimming with kids as the river mouth snakes its way into the ocean and provides calm and warm water to bathe in. The imposing views of Mt Oberon and the trademark orange tinted rocks of the Prom really make this a scenic delight. We relaxed the day away on the beach and even grabbed some small, clean and fun waves on the surfboard....
