Getting Back to Basics

As we were pulling up to the gates of the property we felt a sense of calm, the street was lined with native bush along winding roads, with horses and cows in paddocks nestled between an abundance of bushland.

We rode along the tree-lined path towards The Barn, which on a cold Autumn day looked very warm and inviting. The Wood-fired pizza oven went straight to the top of our to-do list, and my toddler was delighted to spot the goldfish in the pond outside the front door. There was ample firewood stacked, and ready to use, so we lit the fires and the pizza oven and started preparing our pizza with a wine in hand!

The sun was setting behind the forest and we could see kangaroos, rosellas and lots of finches. We managed to feed the birds with the birdseed in the pantry. The Barn was equipped with everything you could possibly want for a country retreat, with real attention to detail. In the evening, I enjoyed a very relaxing bath while the others read and played the guitar by the fire. The King-sized beds were a luxurious touch, and all of the bedrooms were furnished beautifully.

The next day, after a great night sleep, we headed to Morwell River Falls Reserve. We loved smelling the fresh air while walking through the rainforest canopy, and had the waterfall all to ourselves! We spent the afternoon in Yinnar, talking with the local makers about their crafts, and enjoyed a great coffee at the cafe.

We retreated back to The Barn for the evening to get cosy by the fire while the sunset behind the house.

We saw the Woodfire Pizza oven in the listing photos and couldn't wait to give it a red hot crack when we arrived! Roll out some dough and throw on your favourite toppings, it takes some time to get it up to the right temp so start the heating of the oven process earlier rather than later. Once at the temp you can start banging them out super quick!

An easy walk to the falls from the car park. Super nice flowing falls, well worth checking out.

We stopped off at the Pandesal Bakery for lunch in Meeniyan. A nice modern bakery with plenty of tasty sweet and savoury treats.

We drove through to the small quaint town of Yinnar South, grabbed a coffee and walked around to see what the town had to offer. The locals were super friendly and up for a yarn, we grabbed a coffee and walked around exploring the shops and parks.
