Westsound Solitude

The Cedar Orchard Cabin is the perfect little place to get away from the busy environment of the mainland.

After about an hour ferry ride from Anacortes, you drive about five minutes and arrive in Westsound with the cabin nestled up on a little ridge from the road and just a few steps from the Westsound Marina. We were greeted by a family of wild peacocks that roam the property and they were one of the main highlights of our stay.

The layout of the cabin is really unique and has all the essentials for a relaxing stay on the island. One of the best features of the cabin has to be the sunroom with the big windows all around for you to enjoy the view of the property. Waking up to the sounds of the birds singing and the rooster coos was one the most rejuvenating and peaceful experiences.

Orcas Island looks pretty big on the map but we managed to do a lot of exploring during the day and still have enough time to come back and enjoy everything the cabin has to offer including the hot tub and an enhanced view from the top of the stairs and the firepit.

We travelled east and visited the historical Rosario Resort, adventured around the trails and waterfalls in Moran State Park and drove up to Mt. Constitution lookout and experienced an amazing view of Puget Sound with the spectacular views of the other islands and the mainland in the distance. When you drive to and from the eastern part of the island, you will pass through a cute little town of Eastsound where you will find some shops, restaurants and an amazing bakery that has fresh pastries, sandwiches and coffee.

Staying at the Cedar Orchard Cabin was truly an amazing experience and it is perfect not only for relaxation and rejuvenation but also an inspiration for curiosity and adventure.

Make a trip out to the Rosario Resort, Museum and Spa which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The self-guided museum showcases the history of this resort and the life of Robert Moran, a shipbuilder who moved to Orcas Island and began constructing the Moran Mansion in the early 1900s.

The resort property neighbours one of Washington's premier state parks, Moran State Park. Moran offered Washington State thousands of acres to become one of Washington's first State Parks.
