Beautiful Countryside Escape
Adventure in Goldendale, Columbia Gorge, WA, US
The minute we arrived at Cabin on the Prairie, we were overtaken by sense of peace and serenity. The small-town vibes combined with big, mountain views and wild flowers to take our breath away. We enjoyed cooking our meals in the fresh air on the outside stove, and staying cozy next to the fire as we watched the stars fill up the night sky.
Goldendale makes you feel like you are far away from civilization, but you're actually just 45 minutes away from the city of Hood River. During our stay here, we went on a beautiful hike at Dog Mountain (an hour from the cabin) and took in more beautiful views! One of the nights we ate at The Dirty Cowgirl – a local favorite – where we enjoyed one of the best briskets I've ever had. If you're looking to escape the big city and wanting to unwind, then you must add Cabin on The Prairie to your list! I felt like I could relax and unwind on a whole new level that I've never experienced before.

Things We Did
- Hike
- Restaurant
- Snow
This hike truly had it all – beautiful forests, amazing wild flowers everywhere, and views of the Columbia River, Mount Hood and Mount St Helens. The hike is a six-mile round trip with 2800 feet of elevation and it's worth every step. Just be aware that on weekends between April 23 and June 12 (and Memorial Day) you must have a permit to hike there due to its popularity. If you don't have a permit, you can take their free shuttle, which drops you off and picks you up from three different locations – we did this and it was so simple and convenient.
This awesome restaurant was recommended to us by our host and it didn't disappoint! We had the brisket, which was the special that night, and it was so good – best I've ever had. The restaurant was small, but the service was great and the food delicious!
This ski resort stays open longer than any other ski resort in the PNW. With one of their lifts going up to 8,000 feet they are able to keep operations open a lot longer. We were lucky enough to come on the first day this lift was open for the season! It was so fun skiing on one of the most beautiful mountains in Oregon on this sunny blue bird day.
