Garden Sanctuary on the Island
Adventure in Vashon, Greater Seattle, WA, US
Vashon is a special little place where you'll quickly notice that everyone operates on island time. Whether you're looking for events, local produce, beach hangs, or peace and quiet, Vashon is where you can truly choose your own adventure.
My adventure began when I arrived at MiKo’s. Karen, the cherished host, greeted me warmly and kept me up-to-date with the island's happenings. A lot was going on that night, but as soon as I lounged in the garden, I felt the serenity I’ve craved. Birdsongs and the sound of rustling trees filled the air. I followed the sun rays to different secluded perches until I arrived at the hot tub. Let me tell you, everyone needs this hot tub in their life.
After waking from a glorious sleep, I scooped up my friend Lexi from the ferry. We headed to Snapdragon to get brunch and were swarmed by the biggest pastries anyone has ever seen. We walked our full bellies off by noodling around town and meeting local folk along the way. As the day got hotter, Karen lent us her beach chairs and we drove to Raab’s Lagoon to melt along the water. The day went by like a gentle breeze.
Thirsty for something cold and sweet, we made our way back into town and went to May’s to sip on the best Thai iced tea. A local invited us to karaoke that night, but we craved tranquility among the garden. Another night of catching the sunset from the hot tub.
After our sluggish morning, we said goodbye to our island sanctuary and headed for coffee at Karen’s recommended spot, Caffe Vino Olio. Along the way to the ferry, we made one pit stop at the Forest Garden Farm, but were a little late and the booth was freshly picked.
I’m still dreaming about my mellow Vashon adventure (and the jets in that hot tub) and can’t wait for another island getaway to MiKo’s.

Things We Did
- Beach
- Farm
- Café
Raab's Lagoon has a lot of history behind it and is a fantastic place to hang by the water. Word to the wise, there are lots of jellyfish, but that didn't stop a lot of people from swimming anyway. Be sure to bring a floatie!
This is the sweetest farm stand with fresh bouquets, soaps, and local produce.
Snapdragon has pastries bigger than your face, and they're mouthwatering. Hangout in the vintage-lined interior or their garden filled patio. Some nights, they have pop-up events and open their speakeasy bar.
Caffe Vino Olio makes delicious coffee makes deeeelicious coffee...and they also have wine! Try their coffee slushie when it's in season and hang out in their front or back patio.
On a hot summer's day, nothing beats May's thai iced tea. We ordered it with creamy coconut milk and it was absolutely to die for.
