Riverside Hideaway

What an experience.

From the moment we arrived at River Valley, we felt like we were transported to another world – a world of rolling hills, exciting adventures and hot baths overlooking the raging river.

Located on the cliffside next to the Rangitikei River, we found The Bus tucked away neatly into the surrounding trees which gave a sense of privacy and comfort. The Bus radiates unique charm with its blue paint job and sunny yellow interior and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay, including tea & coffee, a mini fridge, heater and two cosy bathrobes.

After settling in, our first stop for the evening was at the River Valley Lodge where we were treated to a seriously delicious three-course farm-to-table meal (all included with our stay at the Bus). We couldn’t recommend the food enough and by the end of our meal, there wasn’t a morsel left on our plates. As night fell, we cozied up in the bus and fell asleep to the sound of the river outside.

The following morning, we joined two other groups to whitewater raft eleven kilometres of grade 3-5 rapids on the Rangitikei. The action-packed adventure had our hearts in our throats for the better part of three hours and we loved every minute of it.

Back at The Bus, I ran a bath and could have relaxed there forever as the heat soaked into my skin and relaxed my tired muscles. That night we shared a table with our rafting crew and shared stories like old friends long into the night.

On our final morning, we hired some e-bikes for a sunrise mission across the countryside. Stopping to take in the views while the inquisitive gazes of the farm life – horses, sheep, chickens, cattle and even a very friendly pig - followed us as we rode past.

Satisfied with our morning expedition, we hit the sauna before bidding the River Valley adieu – until next time!

Pukeokahu is a stunning part of the country and what better way to explore the many rolling hills than on e-bikes! We hired our bikes from the River Valley Lodge and explored the local back roads at our leisure, stopping frequently to admire the view.

We spent three epic hours on the Rangitikei river tackling grade 3-5 rapids in our inflatable raft. The experience is fully guided and all gear is provided, plus a hot shower at the end of the trip.
