The Crest of an Eagle

Perched atop Crackenback Ridge in Thredbo Valley on a 100-acre parcel of land sits The Crest, an off-grid tiny home packed full of punch. Nestled amongst beautiful gum trees and native grasses, Crackenback is home to an abundance of wildlife and is enclosed by rugged mountains and crisp clear rivers which have formed over millions of years so you’re surrounded by myriad bike trails, walking tracks and fishing spots to get a good nature fix!

From the moment we arrived, we felt at ease. The sun-soaked deck and fire-pit warmed our souls in the high country as the evening temperatures dropped as we gazed at the mountains and let time fly by.

With a fully equipped kitchen, we cooked up a prawn curry and threw some vinyl on the record player and danced until we hit the hay. Come morning, we made a pot of coffee, fixed our bindings, got our snow gear on and drove down the road to the ski fields for a wild day on the slopes. We stopped in at Alpine Hotel for a drink and played Italian cards around the fireplace before an early evening stroll along Thredbo River Track and perched ourselves on a boulder with some canned negronis to listen to the river rush past.

The Crest, with its ideal location and homely features, is a great place with a great price to match. I’m eager to stay at The Nest next, another unique stay that the host, Leah runs on the same property.
