Byron Hinterland and Coastal Adventures

We took an early flight from Melbourne to Brisbane on Wednesday, picked up our rental car and started our road trip to Yelgun. We made a pitstop on the way to Mt Tamborine, grabbed some lunch at the local cafe, made a quick detour to check out Curtis Falls and hit the road again to head further south.

When we arrived at the A-frame we were in awe. The afternoon sun was lighting up the surrounding hinterland, so Bec put on a bath and we spent the afternoon listening to the birds sing into the sunset. The next morning we got up early to see some humpback whales and made our way to the boat tour! Within a few minutes we were greeted by two whales, it was incredible. We then spent the rest of the day shopping and eating delicious food around Byron Bay and made our way to Wategos Beach and Byron Bay Lighthouse where we watched the sunset, drank some wine and watched whales breaching in the distance. The next morning was spent watching the sunrise and eating muesli on the deck, again listening to the beautiful bird sounds around us. Over the three days, we had a solid mix of walking, exploring and a much-needed recharge, coming back to the cabin really felt like a home away from home. From there we made our way to our next destination for some more Byron adventures!

There are plenty of whale-watching opportunities around Byron Bay, but if you want to get up close and personal, you can do a boat tour with Out of the Blue Adventures in Ballina, which is under an hour from Yelgun. A truly incredible experience....
