Canadian Cabin in the Woods (and Wombats)

Dale and Tina Siver have created a little nostalgic rustic cabin in the woods as a throwback to their childhood memories in Canada. Everything you could want or need to have a quiet time connecting with your loved ones here has been thought of. We had a dreamy first morning on the deck in the sun playing scrabble with coffee and birdsong, finding the binoculars and bird guide sparked a lovely morning of exploring around the grounds, I received tutoring in (giant) chess and then much excitement as we recognised and fuelled on by signs of WOMBATS!

Exploring drove us to hunger so we went on the hunt into Kangaroo Valley Village where I was so deliriously relaxed sitting outside in the sun. After lunch at the Friendly Inn Hotel, I thought we were going to stay until dinner. An afternoon of shopping had us return with armfuls of books to settle in for some reading time. I barely saw another person the whole time we were here and when I did it was at a distance. The peaceful quiet is glorious, I wish I could have stayed a week! It's the kind of quiet that you suddenly can appreciate an author escaping to.

The cabin is so cosy and warm even on the coldest nights, we snuggled on the comfy couch and watched movies and YES, we got a visit from some wombats. I left declaring wombats as my new favourite animal and feeling rejuvenated and joyous at the quality time spent with my middle child in such a gorgeous place.

Behind The Pioneer Village Museum is a long suspension bridge and a lovely bushwalk which was perfect for kids. We had so much excitement while crossing the bridge, finding paper daisies and moss on granite, and checking out potential wombat homes we came across, there are little signs on the trees to keep you from getting lost

Mouthwateringly tender beef cheeks that fell apart at fork touch, cold tap beers, kids meals, a playground and a view! I basked in the winter sun among friendly dogs and slow-paced locals living their best life, the kids had ample paddock to roam... BLISS. I absolutely melted and thought I might not even be able to drag myself away from this place

From the front, this first appears to be a tiny little shop but it just keeps going back and back and back. A magical experience weaving through the maze of bookshelves eventually landing in a leadlight windowed light-filled room filled with the loveliest children's books. We browsed for hours and left with armfuls!

Had the whole place to ourselves for a fun afternoon of "Wombat Hunting" (no wombats were hurt but there was plenty to see and maps were made!)

I'm not sure who could have the willpower to resist the smell of hot cinnamon donuts but as soon as we stepped out of the car we were following the smell and floating after our noses like cartoon characters led by waft lines. Did not disappoint. Made to order - Hot. Sweet. Cinnamony. There's even a Nutella upgrade! Coffee for the Mamas. Left very full and satisfied with zero regrets
