Northland's Hidden Glamping Getaway

We travelled up from Auckland for a mid-week getaway after a busy few weeks at work and arrived in the evening for our amazing two-night getaway. Upon arriving we instantly felt relaxed and ready for a couple of days of downtime and local adventures.

The host met us at the top of the driveway and showed us around, and he was extremely accommodating and helpful. The first thing we noticed is how comfortably set up the Glamping was. We loved the layout and how you have a view out to the bush all around the property, no matter where you are or what you're doing. We settled in for the night and hopped into bed, delighted by the electric blankets for a cosy sleep.

We woke up feeling rested and decided to bbq the eggs the host had kindly provided from his chickens to have with our orange juice and muffins. We enjoyed our breakfast on the deck admiring the beautiful bush surrounding us. After breakfast, we decided to go check out the river just in front of the accommodation, which has a nice seating area to relax and have a coffee.

We then decided to head out and catch a day tour from Paihia to Urupukapuka Island. I would recommend this to anyone visiting the Bay of Islands. The island has amazing views of beautiful Northland beaches as well as a bar with drinks and food on the island. On the way home, we were even lucky enough to see dolphins!

After the tour we decided to stop in at what is now one of our favourite wineries in Russell for a nice red with a view. After a big day, we headed home to enjoy the tub looking out to the forest, it even had a little bird nesting next to us! Just before sunset we used the campfire and roasted the marshmallows provided to make some yummy S'mores. After a final wine by the fire we settled in for a good night's rest.

The next morning we checked out feeling very relaxed and satisfied after a lovely couple of days. On our way home we stopped in at Keri Keri's oldest surviving stone, building which is a nice part of history in the area and a beautiful way to finish our trip.

Omata Estate is a boutique vineyard on a sunny peninsular eight kilometres out of Russell, in the Bay of Islands. Their vines grow on north-facing slopes overlooking the ocean, making for epic views.
