Perfect Family Getaway
Adventure in Russell, Northland & Bay of Islands, NZ
We arrived at our accommodation to be greeted by the friendly resident duck. The duck was super sweet and my nephew had a great time meeting him and really set the tone for the trip, we had arrived on a farm with lots of animals! The accommodation was so unique and had a beautiful little pond straight in front. Neff found his way to the bunk room where he found all the toys for kids to use, he got straight into the toys.
The accommodation is newly built cabins with an outdoor kitchen and bathroom. The cabin is built from recycled and reclaimed timbers which fit with the ethos of the whole property. The owners value sustainability, self-sufficiency, waste-free and eco-friendly which is shown throughout the property with off-grid solar power, tank water, composting toilet and the use of plastic-free materials where possible. The property has a large newly established orchard, a large vegetable garden and free-range chickens and ducks.
My mum and dad started the fire and played board games while enjoying the peace and quiet. After the board games, dad read one of the books supplied to Neff sending him off to sleep ready for a day of adventure tomorrow.
We woke to a beautiful morning and Neff was straight onto the flying fox. He had a great time flying down that he never wanted to stop. We were then greeted by the host who showed us his new baby duck which was one of his highlights. We then headed down to check out the goats on the property, we were even able to feed them.
Around lunchtime, we decided to head into Russel. We stopped along the way and got some fresh oysters which were super delish. We then stopped at the local fish and chips shop to get some takeaways and headed to the beach for some food and a swim. We jumped in the water and enjoyed the sun's rays for the afternoon. We then headed home and decided to get ready and drive 5-minutes down the road to the amazing restaurant Sage, the food was so tasty. After dinner, we were super tired so we were happy to head home and get some sleep.
The next day we woke and left our amazing stay with some great memories....
