A winter escape in Victoria's High Country

On a cold late afternoon, after driving for a few hours from Melbourne, we arrived at this cozy hand-crafted cottage made of recycled timber. It is called Indigo Hideaway, and the space was instantly warm and inviting.
Located in Allans Flat, it took us about three and a half hours to get there.

Upon our arrival, Kate, the host, greeted us and gave us a tour of the cottage. She had already warmed it up and left a delicious breakfast hamper for us in the kitchen. She also provided excellent recommendations for things to do in the region. That evening, we snuggled up in the cottage, sipping tea, and planning our weekend adventure.

The next few days were filled with adventures as we explored the area. We started by visiting the nearby town of Yackandandah, where we strolled along the main street and discovered charming local shops. We also took a walk around the lake at Allans Flat Reserve. For lunch, we stopped at Beechworth. This picturesque town is known as Australia's finest historic gold-mining town. We had a yummy lunch at a local café and even indulged in some treats from the famous Beechworth Bakery.

As nature enthusiasts, we spent the afternoon searching for waterfalls and found the stunning Woolshed Falls. From the lookout, we could see the powerful flow of water. We walked down to the rocks to get a closer look, and admire its beauty. In the evening, we returned to the cottage to watch the sunset with a glass of wine and a cheese board. We spent the night reading books in the reading loft, accessible via a retractable ladder, and playing cards while wrapped in the robe provided.

We woke up on the last day feeling rejuvenated and relaxed. After a lovely breakfast in bed while watching the sunrise, it was time to leave this peaceful and quiet place to head back to the buzzing city of Melbourne.
