Western Wilderness

The Blue Mountains is a classic choice for a Sydneysiders' weekender - and for good reason. There are hikes up to world-class views and secluded waterholes, buzzy breweries and cosy restaurants — all surrounded by that fresh clean country air.

After following a winding gravel driveway up to Woodland Cabin, we parked up, unloaded and immediately felt an aura of calm. Warmly hued festoon lights, wildlife wandering freely, a round plunge pool perched alongside your deck, a vista to rival most - everything is special here.

Facing north on a sunny slope, the cabin sits 700 metres above sea level. The pine walls, cedar flooring, a trio of Stetsons, and a coiled lasso subtly nod to the cabins backwoods roots; American Wild West. The fire was already built when we arrived, so with a single flick, we lit a match and got real cosy around the fireplace. We had a dedicated coffee bench including espresso machine, plunger, percolator - you can even make your own drip coffee. There's freshly ground beans, milk, a 12-strong selection of teas along with a collection of apple infused welcome snacks from the orchard.

Despite the cabins 160sqm indoor seductions, our attention was constantly drawn outside, through huge windows to the views beyond. Whether in the bath, the bed, by the fire or in the pool, there are expansive panoramic views that will never tire your eyes.

Nearby your lodging are farmers markets, euro-inspired saunas and the option to explore the area by horseback. If you want to stay close, stroll to the staggering cactus plant or stick to the private Woodlands Walk. After a stroll we lazed in the hammock suspended above the trees deeply sunk into our books.
