Big Things come in Small Packages
Adventure in Jindabyne, Snowy Mountains, NSW, AU
Nestled in the sub alpine woodland of Moonbah lies Thompsons Hut. This special hut was built in the early 1900's, as a shelter for those cattlemen on the Snowy Plains, caring for their livestock during unpredictable mountain weather. It sits right beside Old Cobbin Homestead and 52 acres of incredible farmland.
The hut is a truly unique stay, it may be small, but it sure is packed with a punch. On arrival, we were welcomed with a warm fire. We let the chickens out of their cage to play as our plans were to relax in the afternoon sun at the hut, rotating between chilling on the deck and swaying in the hammock. We made ourselves a gin and tonic, (first one is on the house for guests) played cards, and enjoyed a cheeseboard - the chooks couldn’t help but stick around to see who won.
Having copped a light dusting of snow in the afternoon on the property, we knew the snow would be dumping on Mt Kosciusko, so an adventure in the alps the following days would definitely be on the cards. As the snow fell, the sun came out, and the horses played near the shearing shed. We spent a good chunk of time hanging out and cuddling them up until night fell, and we were delighted with the starriest night sky!
Following a long day of walking a snow covered trail, returning to the hut and drawing a bath sounded well deserved. Whilst there was WIFI, we pretended as if there weren’t. Take my advice and do the same.
