Atop Hills of Green & Gold
Adventure in Hazel Park, Gippsland, VIC, AU
Gazing out across rolling green hills, dotted with roaming sheep and cattle, we spot the tall dunes and rocky mountains of Wilson's Prom before us. The expanse of our surroundings humbling us, as we sit on the deck - mere humans amidst this wide open space, I feel so tiny, yet on top of the world at the same time!
These views from One Tree Hill had us from the get-go; our stay, a shipping container home, that's been built to make the most of them. It's the kind of place you go for weather-watching and stargazing, to take in the magnificent beauty of our Mother Nature and be captivated by her rolling cloud formations and candy-coloured skies at each end of the day. If you're lucky, the clouds will settle in the valleys below you and a sunrise above them is certainly worth waking up for.
We spent our days on the deck, watching eagles soar above us and our dogs leap through the long grass, swapping stories and reminiscing on family memories. A venture to the nearby Agnes Falls had us blown away by the enormity of the gorge and the tumbling cascades that plummet to its floor. This hidden secret in Gippsland's hinterland is not to be missed.
As evening fell, I retreated to the bathtub while the others played board games by the crackling wood fire. Wild weather enveloped our home atop the hill, yet we stayed cosy and warm inside. After tucking our little one into bed, I cradled a hot cup of tea and watched lightning dance across the horizon from the glass frontage of our stay. With my pup at my feet and the sounds of my family laughing in the next room I was filled with gratitude for it all. This one precious life we have, just so very worthy of these adventures.

Things We Did
- Waterfall
- Takeaway
- Farm
This incredible waterfall is somewhat unexpected amidst the rolling Gippsland hills. A monstrous cascade that tumbles 59 metres down a rocky gorge, making it Victoria's highest single-span falls. There's a meandering 200m walk to the viewpoint which offers a feast for the eyes of cattlefarms meeting the wild bush and the mighty Agnes River that runs through the hills.
Worth the stop in this sleepy seaside town to grab the best fish and chips around! Authentic home-cut chips with fish that's freshly brought in from the wharf opposite. The tastiest we've found in a long time!
Wander the scenic driveways of the 53 acre property, with 360 degrees across rolling hills. With views out to the prom, this working sheep and cattle farm sits atop a 300m hill, boasting just one big tree but vistas that will have you in awe.
