The quiet side of Byron
Adventure in Byron Bay, North Coast, NSW, AU
We arrived on a sunny, hot afternoon to find Laduma in the pleasantly quiet side of Byron. The kids were SO excited, everyone exploring the carefully considered rooms with lots of WOWS, and then straight down the few steps into the gorgeous pool - which I then couldn't get them out of until dark!
Happy post-road trip Mum, was greeted by aircon and a coffee machine. Then wine and an amazing grazing platter while the sun sets over happy splashing kids. BLISS. The place is a dream; comfiest beds, softest towels, gorgeous master bathroom, TVs in 3 rooms for chill out times, ample pool towels, stocked kitchen, maxo relax outdoor area with breakfast bar, daybed, dinner table and BBQ.
It was hard to even coax the kids out of the pool to get them just across the road to the beautiful Belongil Beach - which did not disappoint and is everything you want a Byron beach to be! We spent a happy hot day surfing and alternating between eating, pool swims and train rides.
We finished the day with an absolutely dreamy sunset beach stroll down to Treehouse for pizza and cold beer. The kids decided we would visit the Byron Wildlife Sanctuary the next day (when everyone was done swimming of course).
What an absolutely perfect family holiday. Laduma, we will be back!

Things We Did
- Experience
- Surf
- Pub
Sweet lo-fi animal sanctuary, happy healthy animals. Regular animal talks presented by caring and chill staff. No crowds, lots of shade - for hot days there is even a kids waterpark! BBQ facilities and picnic tables, cafe. Cheeky goats will mug you (the kids shrieking with laughter!) This is an iconic destination and absolute must see for the area.
Iconic Byron - beautiful sunny day mid-week, high tide... the little kids had a great time surfing gentle waves in the shallows, the big kids had the best waves of their life out the back! YEW!
The highlight for the kids was the gorgeous Byron Bay Train - a perfectly restored 1949 heritage train and the world's first solar train! Ride into town to eat and shop or ride it out to the charming North Byron Hotel for a pub lunch. Train runs every hour 10-5 daily
We strolled up the beach at sunset to be greeted by the warm lights and welcoming vibe of Treehouse at Belongil. Chill house DJ, delicious wood fired pizzas and ice cold tap beers, mandalas for the kids to colour while they waited
