Soulful She Shed
Adventure in Walkerville, Gippsland, VIC, AU
From the outside, it looked like just a shed. Although, as I walked up the stairs of this Walkerville pad, I could feel that it had more to give than meets the eye. A stylish, natural light sanctuary with reading nooks galore. By heck, she was a pretty shed! Life’s been hectic for me. So some alone time with a full day of nothingness planned was in order, and this stay had me covered.
I skimmed through the records and found some Fleetwood Mac to bring me into the night with the company of the fire crackles and a cup of tea. I cozied up with my book and fell asleep on the couch. Later that evening, I found my bed first on the left.
Early morning rise with a froffy coffee made in the dark tiled stylish kitchen, I adventured to the nearest beach to get the body moving. I discovered large kilns that were over 120 years old in the cliff faces by the sea. Pretty impressed to see they were still in one piece! I took some snaps and followed the kiln trail back to the car park. I could feel my tummy rumbling, so bunch was a must back at the abode. I potted around that afternoon with some reading, journaling, water drinking, and yoga - all the self-love that I needed. The open lounge was such a welcoming space, that it was hard to move far from it.
I could hear the bathtub calling my name so naturally I responded by filling it up along with filling my glass of wine. I sunk right in, to my chin and closed my eyes. It was deeeeeluxe! I made it to the lounge feeling relaxed and recharged after a dreamy bath. The warmth from the wood fire burned slowly as the flames seduced my eyes. Have you ever sat still and watched fire do its thing? It’s pretty relaxing... the night drew heavy just like my eyelids and that night I slept right through.
An 11am check out that morning and I was in no rush to leave. Pancakes made on the large gas stove featuring strawberries on top and local honey which was gifted from the hosts. I packed up my car, gave thanks to the soul-filling shed for all that she gave me, and went on my merry way.
I adventured back to the beach where the kilns were but went in the opposite direction towards the large volcanic-looking rocks that caught my eye the day before. The tide was out and so was I! Rock pools, caves, and swimming holes, all to myself! I climbed through the caves and had a fresh dip in a few rock pools! I drove up 30 minutes to Fish Creek cos with a name like that, you’d have to have incredible fish and chips right?! And by gosh they were! Arrived at the local watering hole for a meal and loved all the local artwork on the walls.
After filling my belly I wondered the arty village and checked out the quirky stores, cafes, art studios... and even a wine bar! It wasn’t a big town although there’s been a lot of heart put into it. I drifted through the town like I did the rest of the day. My stay in Walkerville was a pleasant one and I’ll know exactly where to go when I need some TLC again. She was all that I needed and more.

Things We Did
- Town
- Experience
- Beach
30 minutes from Walkerville, Fish Creek is an arty village full of heart! Stopped off at the Fish Creek Hotel for fish and chips lunch and wondered the rest of the town checking out the local shops, art spaces and cafes.
Walkerville Lime Kilns still stand to this day and certainly worth a look! I walked along the beach as well as the walking track checking them all out! Limited parking so I would get there before lunchtime and there's toilets too.
On the same beach as the Lime Kilns Walkerville, the opposite end of the beach are these volcanic looking rocks! Once the tide is out, I went exploring in and around the caves finding all sorts of hidden gems! Rock pools. Swimming holes.. Was super awesome!!
