Escape to French Island: A Weekend to Reconnect

The moment we boarded the barge from Corinella, we felt the city fading away. Crossing calm waters toward French Island was like entering another world—one where life slows down, and nature takes over. With only 140 residents and thousands of koalas, the island felt untouched and wild.

Our tiny home was everything we dreamed of. Perched on a hill with sweeping views, it welcomed us with warm lights glowing from its windows. Simple yet luxurious, it became our sanctuary for the weekend. Mornings in the hammock, evenings soaking in the outdoor bath under the stars, and rainy afternoons by the cosy fireplace made it unforgettable.

We wandered trails where koalas dozed in the trees, their quiet presence reminding us to slow down. A short hike to The Pinnacles revealed breathtaking bay views, and French Island Vineyards offered handcrafted wines, local cheeses, and pure indulgence.

This wasn’t just a weekend away; it was a chance to reconnect—with nature, each other, and the simplicity we’d been missing.

French Island is home to over 7,000 koalas, the largest and healthiest population in Victoria. Wander through trails in French Island National Park or simply look up into the gumtrees around the island—you’re almost guaranteed to spot one. Seeing these fluffy creatures dozing in the wild is a truly magical experience, and the island’s isolation ensures they thrive here like nowhere else.
