Step Back In Time

We knew we wanted to escape to somewhere quiet and remote. We just didn't realise how remote this beautiful little cottage actually was.

3 hours drive from Melbourne lies Howqua with its quaint rolling hills and nestled amongst the Australian Alps.

With the frost setting in we quickly made use of the vintage fireplace and snuggled down to the sound of the river close by.

To our surprise, we discovered Mt Buller was only 45 minutes away, yet felt like a completely different world. A ski resort hosting one of the most vibrant sunsets we have ever seen. Quick note: There is a steep little entry fee to access the resort, however, we felt it was well worth the view. Especially if you're a skier or snowboarder....

We woke at sunrise to the garden glistening with frost, the river right at our doorstep. We made fresh coffee and took in the view from the bench that overlooks it all. We walked along the river edge and stumbled upon some chunky little wombats and colourful lorikeets who seemed to enjoy our snacks. Don't forget to say hi to Bobby. You will know when you see him ;)...

As we made our way back to Melbourne, we detoured via the famous Black Spur Drive to witness a gloriously foggy morning in the Jurassic-like forest. Towering ferns line the winding road, a must see if you're in the area....
