Cosy Cabin, Campfires & Magical Caves
Adventure in Granite Rock, Gippsland, VIC, AU
Following a winding dirt track into the Australian bushland, I arrived at my log cabin tucked gently among the trees. Two cosy bedrooms, open-plan living with a crackling wood fire, and a bathroom fed by rainwater gifted from the sky—it had everything I needed. I was greeted by welcome chocolates on the kitchen table, which I promptly enjoyed with a cuppa on the verandah, watching the local birdlife flutter in for a feed.
That night, I settled into stillness by the fire, alternating between my book and a bit of TV. It was exactly what my soul had been craving—comfort, quiet, and warmth. The next morning, I took another dirt track to Evans Track, drawn by whispers of an incredible swimming hole. True to my nature-loving, water-obsessed self, I dove straight in. The water was fresher than the daisies outside the cabin, and I couldn’t imagine being there and not swimming. Afterwards, I picnicked by the edge, soaking in the solitude and the view—just me and Mother Nature, no one else in sight.
As evening fell, I lit the outdoor fire and wrapped myself in its glow as the stars appeared. The crisp air, flickering flames, and a cheeky cup of tea created a moment I happily got lost in. I woke the next morning to the song of kookaburras—my gentle cue to rise. Coffee, yoga, and a wander through wildflowers around the property made for a perfect start to the day. With a grateful heart, I packed up my van, thanked the feathered locals, and set off to explore the Buchan Caves.
The caves had been on my list for ages, and being so close, I wasn’t about to miss out. Two tours and a bushwalk later, I was beaming—my cheeks literally hurt from smiling. That night, tucked into bed, I replayed it all. The cabin had given me everything I needed, including the kind of nourishment I didn’t even know I was missing—until it settled quietly into my heart.

You are surrounded by Australian Outback here so take full advantage of your surroundings my friends! Keep your eye out for wild flowers too! I sat on the verandah both mornings with a cuppa tea watching all the birds come in to the feeder.
Evans track swimming hole! And what a Ripa of a spot this is!!!! I spent all day here swimming in the free water and enjoying the surroundings. Not another humans in sight. I spent time too searching for love heart rocks to add to my collection.
Buchan caves you didn't let me down! Paid tours is the only way you can access these my friends but it was worth your dollar bucks! I did both the Fairy Cave and Royal. Both of them were awesome. There's several bush walks around here as well as camping too!
