The Whirlwind Who Breathed with Ease
Adventure in Cape Paterson, Gippsland, VIC, AU
The wild weather followed me to Cape Paterson like an overly attached ex. I, of course, made my entrance like a dramatic queen—flamboyant and unapologetic—rushing into the house as if I were the whirlwind that had just blown in. Finally, I could breathe with ease. I was home.
The house smelled like calm and felt like ease. The main bedroom was tucked at the front of the house, with the second just off the entrance hall. Naturally, I claimed the master suite, flopping full starfish onto the olive-green bedspread. Crisp. Fluffy. Inviting.
Toward the back of the home, I found a modern kitchen and dining space filled with indoor plants and thoughtful, eco-conscious touches. I lit the wood fire, curled up, and settled in for the night. The wind howled outside, but me? I was all stillness within.
Morning arrived with sunlight dancing through the blinds, easing me gently into the day. I wandered down to the local café and returned with golden pastries and a top-tier coffee. Rain clouds were rolling in, but I was determined to beat them home—not before a bracing ocean plunge, though! Never have I been more grateful for an outdoor hot shower. My skin tingled. My spirit buzzed. I stood there for a while, soaking up the simple joy of warm water on skin.
Later, I melted into afternoon meditation on the leather couch, surrounded by cushions and peace. Tea time came in strong. I cuppa-tea’d hard, soundtracked by heartfelt tunes, and followed it all with a wholesome dinner. The kitchen had everything I needed—and a few surprise delights tucked away in the fridge.
That night, I wrapped myself in a doona like a snug little burrito and sunk into the couch for an epic movie marathon with my favourite company: me, myself, and I.
I needed this. And I think the universe knew it. Maybe that’s why it sent the wild weather—to nudge me toward stillness, softness, and self-love. Yes, sunshine by the sea is magic. But sometimes, a rainy hideaway is exactly what the soul needs. And that’s exactly what I found here.
I left feeling restored—grateful to the core for this peaceful haven. And just as I drove away, a rainbow arced over the house like a final blessing. A quiet reminder from the universe: you were meant to be here.

Several access points along the the coast line at Cape Paterson. Near Browns Bay is the Cape Paterson Rockpools. The weather was pretty wild when I visited but it certainly looked like a great spot to check out!
The weather was wild during my stay, so it wasn't my time for bath tub hangs and starry night outdoor showers but I could imagine it would be an epic kinda experience here! I did manage a hot shower through after a cold ocean plunge! Thank goodness for hot warmer! ha!
Zeal and Flow. Great cafe for coffee and croissants. Awesome hang spot to read a book and sip coffee on a rainy day. Gift shop inside too!
