Bushland Hideaway with Cinematic Outdoor Living
Adventure in Venus Bay, Gippsland, VIC, AU
Our stay at Outlook Hill was the perfect blend of rugged Gippsland bush and simple outdoor indulgence. Evenings were spent by the garden fireplace, kids toasting marshmallows while we unwound under the stars. Afternoons unfolded on the beautiful deck, surrounded by native trees, where the kids claimed their favourite spot thanks to our moonlight cinema sessions.
Earlier in the day, we’d wander to Venus Beach No. 4 — the perfect open-ocean spot for an after-breakfast play. We also explored the Point Smythe Nature Trail, a serene bush walk that suddenly opens onto a quiet, empty beach we had all to ourselves.
Back at the house, long lazy soaks in the outdoor bath under the shade of a tree became a daily ritual.
The surprise of the trip was Meeniyan, a tiny gourmet town with far more dining options than expected. Don’t save it for the drive home like we did — go when you can savour it.

Things We Did
- Town
- Hike
- Beach
- Café
We loved Meeniyan so much that choosing a single highlight felt impossible — the whole town became the destination.
Start at Mahob at Moo’s, a café by day and restaurant by night, where a renowned chef brings Cambodian flavours into a modern, comforting space. After breakfast, wander over to Pandesal Bakery for a coffee and, if you’ve got room, one of their pastries.
From there, stroll through the local gallery and shops and let the town’s easy charm set the pace. Before you realise it, lunchtime rolls around — the perfect excuse to settle into Trulli Pantry and its leafy garden, this time with a very different kind of brew.
Meeniyan isn’t a stopover; it’s a day out all on its own.

A serene bush walk. While we aimed to complete the entire 6km we found ourselves on a quiet, empty beach we had all to ourselves and ended up spending the afternoon there until we got hungry.
Perfect destination for a sunset stroll to burn off those dinner treats. The ambience is stunning!
Cute little caffe with breakfast and coffee and simple lunch options when you are too lazy to cook. The service is fantastic.
Conveniently located near a supermarket to stock up on the supplies after you finish up.
