Spacious forest retreat
Adventure in Main Creek, Hunter Valley, NSW, AU
What’s better than escaping with a group of friends, leaving our busy lives behind, and settling into a rhythm of long meals, slow mornings, and swims between conversations? Tathra House gave us the perfect setting to do exactly that. The spacious dining area became our nightly gathering spot, where we stretched dinners out for hours. When the heatwave rolled through, the pool turned into our cold-plunge sanctuary, and later, when the air cooled, we curled up by the fireplace. The couch was dangerously comfortable — the kind you sink into and don’t get back up from.
The weekend felt like a gentle reset. We explored the area, collected fresh local eggs, and spent an afternoon canoeing — the kind of simple adventures that make you forget what day it is. By the time we packed up to leave, we felt restored, connected, and ready to take on the end-of-year festivities with new energy.

Things We Did
- Kayak
- Pub
- Local produce
We were able to hire canoes from the kiosk and take it down to the river. The overarching trees and cool water provided us with a much needed cooldown from the heat.
Everyone treated themselves to a great pub lunch, ranging from ragu pasta, chicken schnitzel or a pizza. Staff were incredible helpful, would highly recommend!

$5 fresh eggs payable with cash only
