Jolly Jumbuck- Stillness in Kangaroo Valley

Jumbuck Cottage felt like stepping into a slower world. Tucked away among the lush grounds of Crystal Creek Meadows, the setting was serene and picturesque boasting open lawns, surrounding greenery, and the soft quiet of Kangaroo Valley stretching in every direction. From the moment we arrived, everything invited us to slow down. We were spoilt with fresh eggs from the on site chooks, local artisan bread, bottled milk and a delicious decanter of red wine on arrival.

Sharing the space with my best friend and Cruz made the weekend deeply grounding. Mornings began gently with coffee on the verandah, watching light move across the valley while Cruz wandered contentedly nearby in a space that truly welcomed him. We picked ripe grapefruit straight from the garden, a simple, grounding moment that made the stay feel deeply connected to the land.

Afternoons were spent doing very little on purpose, soaking up nature, letting conversation drift, and allowing stillness to feel full rather than empty. On our final night, the December 4th full moon rose over the valley, casting a soft glow across the landscape and turning the quiet into something magical. We left feeling restored, rebalanced, and held by nature, friendship, and the gentle rhythm of Kangaroo Valley and this dreamy property.

We took Cruz and our bikinis down to the river creek just a very short drive at the end of the main road just before the bridge. Cruz had a blast splashing in the water while we soaked up the serene surroundings. We even did a spot of birdwatching, noticing someone of the Valley’s beautiful local wildlife.

We strolled through the heart of Kangaroo Valley, popping into the General Store for a loaf of freshly baked artisan bread and local honey. Followed by a purchase at the Valley Vintage store and browse The hive where we found a sweet little courtyard and coffee spot nestled behind. Cruz loved strolling around as he was very welcomed into each of the shops and cafes.

We spent a morning finding treasures at this incredible antique store, browsing unique collectables from decades ago. The very friendly owner helped us source a particular vintage lantern that I had been wanting to find. A true trove of wonderful antique pieces.
