Spa, Sauna & Serenity: A Hidden Kiwi Gem

Adventure in Waikato, NZ
Hidden in the rolling hills of Kauaeranga Valley, Kauaeranga Vista Art Studio is the ultimate escape for slowing down and filling your cup. Think cosy studio vibes, huge windows looking out onto private native bush, and all the little touches that make a stay feel like pure self care.

The standout? An infrared sauna and a spa pool under the stars. The perfect duo for unwinding after a day exploring the valley. Between the warmth of the sauna, the peaceful bush surrounds and a dip in the spa, it is impossible not to feel completely recharged.

Life here is wonderfully simple. Friendly farm animals wander the property, there are fresh eggs for breakfast, homemade bread and jam, and evenings by the fire pit. Marshmallows optional but highly recommended.

Adventure is right on the doorstep too. Swimming holes, bush walks and bike trails keep the thrill alive, and for a classic Kiwi ritual you can grab fresh fish and chips at sunset from the Thames wharf.

Top it all off with a host who is as warm and welcoming as the studio itself and you have a stay that feels effortlessly restorative, totally private and unforgettable. We left feeling inspired, rested and already plotting our next visit.

A refreshing adventure nearby is the beautiful swimming spot known as Shags Water Hole in Kauaeranga Valley. Surrounded by native bush and flowing river water, it’s the perfect place to cool off after a hike or simply relax beside the water. The natural setting feels peaceful and untouched, with the calming sounds of the river echoing through the valley. There are so many incredible swimming holes scattered throughout the valley to explore, each with its own charm but with only so much time in the day, Shags Water Hole is a wonderful place to start. 995B Kauaeranga Valley Road, Coromandel Forest Park 3577

An evening visit to the wharf in Thames is a must. Grab some classic fish and chips earlier in town, then head down to the waterfront to watch the sun set over the Firth of Thames. The sky lights up with warm colours while boats gently sway in the harbour — a simple but beautiful way to end the day.
