Thanks Driza-Bone for supporting this story.
It's Friday, works finished, and we were packed and ready to hit the High Country. It's a fairly decent drive out, I think it took us near six hours, and we arrived at The Willows Hut at around midnight. We were both exhausted from the trip, so we lit the fire, had a cup of tea and then crashed out for the night. The Hut is super cosy, well equipped and boasts a heap of character which dates back to circa 1900.

The following morning we had a lazy sleep in, cooked breakfast and rode horses in the high country for the afternoon, which was unreal! We would highly recommend doing this while you are out there. Take a fishing rod if you see yourself as a fisherman as there is a river running super close to the Hut! That night we lit a fire outside, had cheese & wine and relaxed under the milky way, the starry nights out are here are out of this world, literally.

The hut has everything you need to cook but bring your food and drinks as there is much out this way. The second day we cooked brekky again, packed up and hit the local pub "The Blue Duck Inn" on the way out of the town for a sneaky bevvy and began the long drive back to Melbourne via Mount Hotham which still had some snow to check out. Overall a super relaxing, off-grid couple of days, a great way to reset for sure.

The Willows provides the ideal base to access and fish the Bundara, Cobungra, Mitta, Gibbo and Victoria Rivers as well as Snowy Creek system. Make sure to bring your rod, and or arrange to have fly fishing lessons before arriving through Kathy....

On the way in or out be sure to stop in at all the small snowy towns located throughout the High Country, Omeo is excellent as is Bright and plenty of others. Depending on the time of year you could bring your board or skis and shred the slopes for a day!...

Located super close to the Willows, less than 5 minuted I would say the Blue Duck Inn is a great spot for an afternoon drink and a bite to eat. It's located in a great spot right by the river....

The property is scattered with horses everywhere, some of which you can take riding through the high country if you book in advance. Kathy, who is in charge is excellent and makes you feel at ease on the horses. I think it takes around 2 hours, take a water bottle and a small camera. Backpacks are not allowed. Seriously such a peaceful experience riding through the high country by horse, highly recommended....

The horses hang right outside your doorstep and surrounding the Hut, take some time to go and hang out with them, they are super friendly!...
