The Canopy- An Architectural Delight

Freshly completed and newly listed on Riparide, The Canopy is a unique coastal escape where thoughtful design, art and character come together.

I was lucky enough to be one of the first guests to experience the space, enjoying a solo getaway for a couple of nights. The Canopy has an unexpected past, beginning life as a 40-foot refrigerated freight container that travelled Australia’s road and rail network before being transformed into this beautifully designed retreat.

From the moment I arrived, I loved the striking architecture, timber-clad interiors, eclectic artwork and pops of colour that give The Canopy so much personality. Compact but incredibly well considered, the space has everything you need for a comfortable stay. I enjoyed taking my time discovering all the little details before heading out to explore Phillip Island.

Days were spent exploring the island, with Cowes and Rhyll just a short drive away. I watched the sunset from Cowes Foreshore, wandered along Rhyll Jetty spotting pelicans, and kept an eye out for wildlife on my drives across the island, with rock wallabies often making an appearance around dusk. Evenings were spent back at The Canopy with pizza and wine or settling in with a good book.

The Canopy is hosted by Janine, who I previously stayed with at 3 Piers. She was just as friendly and accommodating, and it was lovely to experience another of her Riparide stays. While this space has its own distinct personality, that same eye for thoughtful design and character shines through.

I left The Canopy with that familiar sense of calm and ease that comes from spending time by the sea and reconnecting with nature- and of course already daydreaming about my next adventure.
