The road to Maggie’s Lane Barnhouse took us through fire-scarred Longwood, where fresh regrowth was pushing through the blackened landscape. Arriving at the cosy barn, we unpacked and settled beside the fire. After dinner, we ended our first night beneath an incredible sky full of stars.
Early the next morning, we wandered the quiet farmland roads around Ruffy, passing curious cows and ancient granite boulders. We continued to Gooram Falls, where water cascaded gently through the rocks, before picking up lunch in Euroa. Back at the barn, the afternoon slowed down. We watched the light fade beside the outdoor fire, spotted a wombat nearby, then baked brownies, relaxed by the indoor fire and danced to music.
On our final morning, we enjoyed coffee in bed and warm croissants before visiting Cheviot Railway Tunnel on the way home. We left feeling grounded, refreshed and glad we had slowed down.
