Sandy paws and relaxed minds

We packed the car and made our way down to Phillip Island, with our dog Bowie along for the ride. He was in for a lovely surprise when we arrived at Ocean Pines, greeted by a lush, fully fenced backyard ready to explore.

Tucked away in Cape Woolamai, this lovely beach house was the perfect base for our little getaway. We spent our first evening chatting on the deck over pizza and a glass of wine, before settling into the slow pace we’d been craving.

The next morning was all about taking our time: playing guitar, reading in the hammock, relaxing on the cosy couch and listening to some jazz records. Later, we grabbed poke bowls and a cinnamon scroll at Cottesloe, which is just a stone’s throw away from the accommodation, before heading to Ventnor dog beach, where Bowie was busy sniffing and exploring and we enjoyed the beautiful sunshine.

Back at the house, we fired up the barbecue and watched the sun go down over dinner on the deck.

Our favourite adventure was the coastal walk to Shelley Beach, with breathtaking views and plenty of fresh air for all three of us.

With its cosy beach house feel, beautiful backyard and dog-friendly location, Ocean Pines was just the kind of place we needed to slow down, explore and enjoy some quality time together. memories together.

We stopped at Cottosloe for some poke bowls and a sweet treat. The coffee and matcha there is also really good. Its located adjacent to the Cape Woolamai dog beach and has a nice outdoor seating area where you can enjoy your meal from.

We took our dog to Ventnor dog beach and spent a whole afternoon there. Us relaxing and our dog Bowie busy playing in the sand and sniffing his heart out. It’s a nice stretch of beach and the only year round dog friendly beach on the island where you can have your dog off the leash.

This stretch of the George Bass Coastal Walk takes you toward the secluded sands of Shelly beach and is easily done in a couple of hours rather than needing to park a car at each end of the trail. It’s also one of the few coastal walks in Victoria with breathtaking views of the rugged coast that you can enjoy with your four-legged friend. Take plenty of water and consider leaving early though, as you are quite exposed to the elements.
