Cozy Cabin by the Prom

Wattle Cabin was the ideal base for our Wilson's Prom adventure. Set among Yanakie farmland just a short drive from the Prom gates it had everything we needed plus some extra nice creature comforts like a cozy wood fire and a charming deck to sit and enjoy the morning sun.

Wilson’s Promontory, also known as Yiruk and Wamoon in the traditional Gunai and Bunwurrung languages, is located around 2 hours south-east of Melbourne the national park is well known for its picturesque trails through rocky granite mountains, sandy beaches and sheltered coves and is home to abundant native wildlife,

We were up early with the sun, eager to start our big weekend at the Prom with our first stop: the Big Drift. Taking a right at the Prom entrance, follow the signs for around 2k’s to find an amazing expanse of dunes, more than enough to get lost in so be careful to keep your bearings, the kids scrambled up sand drifts with excitement trying to find the steepest to dive down, needless to say, we are still pouring sand from our shoes!

Next, we headed to Tidal River, exploring the Loo-rern boardwalk over the river, past Whale Rock to hike to Pillar Point taking in views of Squeaky Beach and Norman Beach passing cheeky wombats before arriving at the lookout. Then on to Squeaky beach, with its pristine white sand squeaking with every step, we played around the river mouth and amazing granite formation at the Northern end.

Everyone was very worn out for the drive back to Fish Creek for dinner at the local hub, the Fish Creek hotel.

After a restful night in Wattle Cabin, we packed our things and headed back into the Prom. We stopped at the wildlife walk for some more wombat spotting then met at Tidal River for a boat tour of Victoria's largest marine park, taking in unique views of amazing nearby islands including the impressive Skull Rock and southernmost tip of mainland Australia as well as seeing sea eagles and lots of seals.

We loaded back into the car worn out but satisfied from a memorable weekend well spent in the outdoors.
