Timeless Sapphire Coast Escape

A beautiful drive along the Sapphire Coast takes you to the little coastal gem of Pambula where you will find the perfect cottage of your dreams.

Lottes Hjem is 150 years old and has been beautifully styled and decorated to make you feel at home whilst also being transported to another era. Surrounded by a cute garden, a lovely kitchen with a beautiful big window that opens out to a little entertaining area, and 3 gorgeous and quaint bedrooms, Lottes is the perfect place to base yourself to explore all that the stunning local area has to offer.

Only a short drive away we found glorious beaches, yummy food delights and national parks to explore. The highlight of our stay was staying put, and having the talented Brodie from Slow Acre come and cook dinner for us!

It was the perfect location for a babymoon getaway!

We headed down to Pambula beach (less than a 5-minute drive from the cottage) - to the southernmost spot where the river comes out to meet the sea. Beautiful white sandy beaches and stunning blue waters made this spot the perfect place to stop, enjoy the sunshine, swim and relax....

We drove for about 20 minutes to find the local Nethercote waterfalls. After a bit of a hike down a steep road, we found a pathway that leads to some beautiful rock pools which made for the perfect spot to eat our delicious sandwiches (bought from the local Bakery in Pambula which is AMAZING). We could hear the waterfalls in the distance, but with no easy route visible we were happy just to chill where we were....

We had the amazing chef Brodie from Slow Acre (www.slowacre.com) come and cook us one of her home-style recipes in Lottes Hjem's kitchen. She made a delicious chicken pie and freshly made salad all sourced from her own orchard. She finished it off by serving a scrumptious rhubarb and yogurt cake. Being cooked for at the property whilst we could just relax and enjoy our environment was definitely the highlight of our stay. We couldn't recommend Brodie enough, she was so warm and friendly and had heaps of local tips. It made the experience extra special....

We decided to go for a drive to get lunch at the newly revamped Tathra Hotel. We knew that Tathra had been hit badly by the bushfires so we were keen to show some local support.
Of course, you can't go to the Sapphire Coast without trying some delicious local Oysters (unfortunately only Jewel got to enjoy those this trip).
After lunch, we headed down to the local wharf and around the coast walk and admired the local scenery. We even ran into a spikey local which made for some extra excitement!

An hour out of Pambula is the beautiful beachside town of Bermagui. We decided we would stop here on our drive home back from Sydney for lunch and a swim at the Bermagui Blue Pool.
What a stunning place to come to - the pools were breathtaking, showing off their mix of emerald and blue waters. There were benches and tables to sit at, and plenty of rock space to spread out comfortably. There was even a toilet block (very helpful).
We had the best vegetarian lunch I have ever had at the Boneless Cafe in town. Two vego burgers that I couldn't believe were vegetarian! We would definitely come back for a visit to this spot again.

Only a short drive from the cottage is another beachside town of Merimbula where we found Bar Beach Kiosk right on the water's edge. The food there was delicious (I was delighted with my Egg In A Hole and even happier to find out that Brodie from Slow Acre had made the tomato chutney that I loved). Was nice to sit out in the sunshine and watch on as people enjoyed their morning swim and kayak....

One of the best bakeries I have ever bought from, this little local gem was a highlight. It was so good for easy food we went back several times.
The coffee was great, and the bread was delicious. We also bought some rolls and pies there for lunches and some treats to have with tea.
It was only a short walk from the cottage so we could bring back the takeaway and enjoy it in the garden.
