A-Frame Away From Home

Off the beaten trail lies your very own rustic getaway in Walkerville at the Whitehouse A-Frame. A two and half hour drive from Melbourne (leave early to avoid traffic) led us to this quiet, thoughtfully decorated retreat from the buzz of the city.

The A-Frame was thoughtfully decorated with lots of fine vintage and antique touches. There are lots of games for kids in the downstairs bedroom and a large array of DVD's to take you back in time with blockbusters for those early nights. Light a fire and settle in on the big cozy couch.

Wake up to the sound of the birds and wind in the trees. Wind down with a glass on wine on the porch and watch the sheep graze in the neighbouring pasture. This is a great place to stay on your way to Wilsons Prom (it's a 30 min drive to the front gate). There's also a nearby caravan park if you'd like to rest in style but your friends want to van life it by the ocean.

We nearly blew over when the high sunset winds challenged us on an effortless, short walk out to the lighthouse. We laughed and ducked behind bushes and challenged the gusts to look out over the rocky cliffs. There wasn't a person in sight, and we had the whole place to ourselves.

You'd never guess it but this cafe is constantly selling out of and restocking their sushi counter. The mix mash of the Italian decor and sushi offerings is confusing at first but why not get a little bit of everything you need? We got our morning coffee and grabbed some sushi hand roll and nigiri to-go for our jaunt to Wilson's Prom for the day.

Park in the visitor centre near the campground and walk across the footbridge to the scenic buffet of hike choices. We opted for a quick sunset lookout to Pillar Point. We saw our fair share of wildlife and gorgeous lookouts on our way to the top. Not one second of this walk/hike disappoints.

Just down the street from the A-Frame is Walkerville North Beach. When we went down there we had the whole place to ourselves. It has a very rocky shore so not the easiest place for swimming but there's a long sandy beach to enjoy the sun and lounge about.
