A Romantic Mountain Escape

Sometimes, what we long for more than anything, is an escape from the everyday chaos, and to hide away into a small, safe haven, that we can call paradise.

Situated in the back of Mount Wilson, in the Blue Mountains, NSW, we found ourselves tucked away in that little slice of paradise, at Dennarque Estate. As soon as we drove up that long driveway, amongst what feels like a botanical garden, we nestled into the Cherry Cottage for a romantic weekend away.

Spending the evenings curled by the couch with a glass of champagne, and the late mornings sipping coffee in bed and reading books upon books of poetry. And in between, walking amongst the estates many, many beautifully manicured gardens.

And for those, wanting a little more adventure, as we did, we drove towards Bilpin for a day at the cider brewery and local cafes. Soaking up the local atmosphere, before returning back to paradise in Cherry Cottage.

Dennarque Estate is known for its beautifully manicured gardens, and for the three days we were there, we ensured a long walk every day to cover every inch of the estate.

From almost-riped cherry trees to every single type of flower you could imagine, and even a traditional Japanese garden- we spent hours walking along every pathway in Dennarque Estate.

Wanting to explore a little more of Mount Wilson's surroundings, we drove just over 30 minutes to Bilpin, where we stopped for lunch.

First being welcomed with a warm atmosphere of old classic music, and, of course- cider. We found our picnic blanket and sat underneath a big old tree, as we shared sipped on Bilpin's famous cider and shared a cheese charcuterie board.

Driving outside of Mount Wilson for 30 minutes, allowed us to delve through a plethora of delicate and intriguing antiques at Blackheath's Victory Theatre Antique Centre.

From old 40's-styled hats and dresses to old film posters, furniture and more. We highly recommend this as a day trip to explore and perhaps even find a trinket or two as a momentum of your romantic weekend away in the mountains.

It wouldn't be a trip to Bilpin really, without a stop off at their infamous Apple Pie Caffe. Famous for their - you used it, apple pies.

As soon as you park outside, you're instantly welcomed with the warm smell of apples and pastry pie crust, before entering and being welcomed to large memorabilia of both Elvis Presley and Italian paraphernalia.

A well-recommended road-trip worthy stop, if you're ever in Bilpin.

While we were in town, in Bilpin, we took on a recommendation from a friend to visit the Grumpy Baker, and we weren't disappointed. A hidden gem tucked away in what would have been an old petrol station - we brought a pie back with us for dinner. Let's just say - it exceeded all expectations, and we'll definitely be back one day soon.
