Unwind by the Elm Trees

After a two-hour drive from Melbourne, we loved nothing more than lighting up a fire and having a delicious dinner in the toasty Elm Tree Hut.

Set in the middle of 160 acres, this cabin, made of four tiny units, is totally off-grid – running on solar panels, gas and rainwater. Needless to say, we felt entirely disconnected and enjoyed some slow family time.

We woke up with the sheep bleating, ready to explore the charming town of Mansfield – its farmers market, op-shops, wineries and breweries. Despite the forecast, we were determined to brave the mist and take advantage of the location to get our first snow fix of the season.

We enjoyed coming back to the hut after our explorations to wander around the beautiful property. We let our three-month-old try her first swing, roasted marshmallows by the campfire while gazing at the stars, and leafed through small living books by the fire with a glass of mulled wine.

It was difficult to close the gate behind us, but we can’t wait to go back in Summer with our hiking boots and explore the numerous hikes recommended by the thoughtful Catherine.
