Under The Bright Stars
Adventure in Freeburgh, High Country, VIC, AU
Staying at The Stables was everything we needed. We’ve never explored the Alpine Region so we were really excited. This was our first trip since lockdown and boy did it feel good to breathe the fresh air.
Thanks to hosts Bel and Bren, they have transformed old horse stables, into a lush haven surrounded by wildlife - waking up to the sounds of the birds was magic. There are all the touches you need to enjoy your stay and the cabin is nestled amongst the trees with perfect views of both the beautiful green paddocks and gorgeous mountains.
The Ovens River even runs through the property which is so nice for a private dip. If you’re like us and enjoy a combo of beautiful accommodation, outdoor activities and need a break from the hustle and bustle, The Stables is everything you could want for a getaway.

Things We Did
- Farm
- Winery
- Bike
Along the way from Melbourne to Freeburgh, we pulled over to buy some farm fresh berries. We could pick our own, and had the juiciest sweetest raspberries from a local farm. They were so friendly and the berries were delicious, but picking them ourselves was the best part.
We were greeted by a lovely man named Grant who gave us a tasting of local wines and recommended accompaniments based on what we felt like. The name Billy Button comes from local native flowers which you can purchase that last over five years!! And look absolutely beautiful. They were a lovely keepsake to take home with us.
Knowing Bright was famous for the bike tracks, we knew we wanted to go for a bike ride but didn't want to put in too much hard work. We hired E-Bikes and took off for the afternoon. We stopped at a few beautiful viewing points and picked wild apples, before stopping off for a drink at Five Acres.
We'd heard that Five Acres was a beautiful spot for lunch or a drink, so on our bike ride, we stopped here for a few local ciders in the lush green gardens. It was the perfect way to spend the arvo.
