Still in Kilcunda

After escaping the traffic through Melbourne on a Friday afternoon we were thrilled to arrive at our home by the beach for the weekend. The Eco Shipping Container Home in Kilcunda is a unique property constructed from shipping containers. Upon putting down our bags and exploring the home we discovered how masterfully executed it was. The layout and clever use of space make the container home feel especially spacious. And just across the road, you'll find the roaring ocean of Bass Strait.

We settled in quickly and enjoyed cooking a nice meal in the quality equipped kitchen. After dinner, we spent some time in front of the sleek fire whilst our son slept soundly in his very own "big boy" bedroom. With two bedrooms both featuring stylish ensuites, this getaway is great for couples or families.

The next day we woke to glorious morning light streaming through the house. We popped the Moka pot on the stove and brewed some coffee to slowly wake up with. As our little man slept in we perused the book on the coffee table "Still". All about the slow home and seachanges, this set the tone for our weekend. We ate breakfast on the sun-drenched deck and looked out towards the coastline. Just across the road from the house is an old trestle bridge perfect for exploring. We went for a morning stroll along the Kilcunda Coast and up to Udder & Hoe for some locally sourced supplies. In the afternoon we decided to tackle the George Bass coastal walk. A breathtaking clifftop hike along rugged beaches and countryside was just what we needed.

On our final day, we made our way to Cape Paterson for some swimming. A nicely protected beach with rockpools proved to be great fun to swim in and explore. We ventured home completely relaxed after a fantastic beachside getaway in a unique but luxurious container home where we made some beautiful family memories.

Beginning In Kilcunda or just out of San Remo. The George Bass Coastal Walk is a breathtaking clifftop hike along the rugged coastline. About 8km in length from end to end. We started at the San Remo end and went about halfway then turned around. With the not so little fella on our backs, we felt this was enough. We enjoyed some phenomenal views of the ocean clifftops and countryside.

A nicely protected beach with clear calm water for swimming. There's a large rock pool in the middle of the beach that is perfect for relaxing in and plenty of small rockpools for the kids to explore. Bring some food for a perfect day down the beach.

Tucked behind the general store is Udder & Hoe. Udder & Hoe is all about slow food and slow living. They stock a wide variety of locally grown and sourced produce. You can grind your own grains, buy fresh veggies and meat or even local beer and wine. We stocked up on some lamb and veggies for a yummy home-cooked dinner.
