Laney & Darren
We moved from inner-city Sydney to 43 hectares in Berrima in 2013 — not quite sure what we were doing, but certain the land was special. Laney has worked as a vet but more recently for NZ brand, Wilson & Dorset. Darren is a plumber and roofer who turned out to be something closer to a builder, a craftsman and a landscape maker.
Under Stars and Sky is Darren's third major build on the property — each one more ambitious than the last. He designed and built the cabin by hand over three years, milling the blackbutt timber on-site, forging the ladder, laying the sandstone. Laney handled everything else.
We live on the farm with our two kelpies, Arlo and Tui, a small herd of cattle, and a garden that took us completely by surprise. Our property is named Turnham Green Farm after the London village where we used to live when we were first a couple.
We built Under Stars and Sky because we wanted people to experience this landscape the way we do — slowly, quietly, under a sky full of stars.
