Additional Information
The centrepiece of our recently completed glamping site is the 35m2 African Safari tent (including awning) manufactured from the highest quality materials in Europe. Inside you will enjoy a Californian king-size bed, comfortable furnishings, and a beautifully decorated interior.
Outside we've created a stunning outdoor kitchen for you to cook in nature, an outdoor bathtub, and a full-service area that includes a hot shower and off-grid composting toilet.
All the power is supplied by the sun and stored for use during the evening in batteries, providing you with ample power to meet your lighting and charging needs.
All these services are located and accessed on the deck meaning you don't have to go far and get your feet dirty.
In front of the tent, we have created a fire pit and you will be overlooking the Matakana Valley. There is an abundance of native birds to enjoy watching and listen to while you unwind.
You will be enjoying amazing privacy as the site is located in a private part of our regenerative farm where we are slowly restoring the land, growing organic food, and slowly restoring the waterways and native ecosystems on the land.
Wifi services are currently not provided however there is some cell coverage, providing you with the perfect excuse to unplug for the duration of your stay.
We're pretty sure this glamping experience will appeal to romantic couples and those who just want to get out of the city and enjoy being in nature without the hassle of having to take much of anything with you (other than some good food and preferred beverages).
As we are still so new and still getting underway we have a special price during winter this year. As you will see from our other listing where my partner Dee and I are super hosts we take every care to provide a great experience for our guests.
Guest access
You will have the site entirely to yourself. We're pretty sure you will have to look hard to find a space as private as ours this close to Auckland. Access to the site from your vehicle is however limited and you will need to be able to walk a short distance down to the tent - approximately 100 metres.
We are sorry to say but people with limited mobility are going to find getting to this site challenging - we are working on this and will aim to have a more accessible offering available in the future.
Other things to note
The site is located on a working farm so we ask people to please be aware of any natural hazards and avoid moving off clearly demarcated walking tracks.
The experience is optimal for two people however there is space for an airbed if you wish to bring friends or older children. During summer it will also be possible to put up a small tent for an extra charge.
Matakana Retreat is a working experimental farm with numerous hazards (ponds, cliffs, felled trees etc.). We ask guests to stay on the landscaped paths and not to venture off the tracks.
The tent is for 18+ and is designed especially for couples. We are able to accommodate third or third and fourth guests on an air mattress in the main tent with prior arrangement.
This is a private, secluded and off-grid retreat priced and designed to allow guests unsurpassed peace and tranquillity only an hour's scenic drive from Auckland.
The fire pit is available for use and we ask that candles (only use the safety candles we provide please) only be used outside the tent and always supervised.

I absolutely love this glamping spot where you've got indulged into nature, listen to the bird songs all day long and enjoy breathtaking views. The tent has everything you need, electric blanket for c...older nights, cozy comfy bed and plenty of books and games to entertain yourself.
The OPEN FIRE pit is so cool! Imagine soaking in the hot bubble bath under the starry sky and fire near by! We stayed there 2 years in a row and will definitely be back. Damon is a very welcoming host and goes above and beyond to make our stay perfect each time!

We had an amazing—although far too brief—stay at this stunning glamping spot. The venue is absolutely spectacular, and our time in Matakana was made even more special by how beautifully set up and pea...ceful everything was. The outdoor bath was an absolute delight, the bed was super comfy, and the gentle birdsong made it the perfect place to slow down from our busy lives.
We were genuinely sad to slip away before sunrise, but we’ll definitely be back—and next time for a much longer stay! Highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for a relaxing, memorable getaway.

Damon and Dianna have been warmly welcoming guests onto their 50 acre regenerative farm since July 2020. Both keen travellers, the couple left their "paid" careers in the sustainability sector to focus on building an eco-tourism experience where they would not only enjoy staying themselves but would be proud to share.
