The Retreat at Coasters - A very comfy nature hide. Captivating outlook filled with water trees and sky. A swallow acrobatic show may entertain you and If not just watch eagles soar or black cockatoos in loping flight. Watch out for marauding monitor lizards and please don’t feed the white cockatoos or any of the wildlife except the humans. Cooking with a view somehow makes food more delicious. A rock floor fire space nestled in rocks with a stone turtle fire pit also awaits.

The Retreat was perfect for our short little stay just three friends and one 6year old. Gary called the week prior to go through arrival details and tell me about the place.
Location was great for a ...morning or afternoon swim and very close to the ferry as we hopped over to Palm Beach for lunch at the Joey one day, then we sat on the deck each night catching up over food, wine and games overlooking the boats and water. It rained on our first night but added to the magic of being tucked away in the hill looking out over the water.

We loved this house! We are a family of two brothers and two sisters, and we had a fabulous time at The Retreat at Coasters. It was so good for the soul.
Imagine soaking up the calming presence of na...tural bush, the sun warming bare feet on the wooden verandah, and the delightful sparkle of water below! It gave us a way to slow down, live simply, and connect.
But, there were also adventures to be had, starting with the ferry from Palm Beach, discovering the house along a bush track, and being pleasantly surprised when we ventured inside. Then there was the kayaking, bushwalking, swimming, and fire pit. We slept well in the comfortable beds, and everything about this place was great!
Thank you for a refreshingly simple, and memorable holiday.

Gary was such a beautiful host. He called me when I initially booked the house to let me know that there was some construction happening encase that changed my mind on whether or not I wanted to stay ...there. Super easy to communicate with and always a text or a phone call away during our stay. My friends and I adored this beautiful oasis and we were truly able to wind down. Would highly recommend if you're looking for a picturesque destination to wind down and reconnect.

Married to Simone with 2 young adult sons. Have worked in the mental health field for many years and plan to continue in this challenging but rewarding profession. My interest in the natural environment, which includes Kayaking, resulted in the privilege of discovering The Retreat at Coasters.

Wildlife At The Retreat
The Retreat at Coasters is first and foremost a place to relax with loved ones and engage with nature. It's a place that supports one in doing as little as possible other than to enjoy the endless show that nature has to offer. From the best seats in the house, perched on top of huge sand stone boulders up in the tree tops one doesn't have to do anything more than sit and watch.
In addition to the resident wallabies, giant lizards, parrots, black cockatoo's and sea eagles you may also be lucky to spot a turtle and occasionally a pod of dolphins that sometimes visit the Bay. The other spectacular feature of the area is the Basin which is jaw dropping beautiful and the perfect playground for children and adults alike. The Retreat at Coasters is all about an emersion in nature and even after a one night stay you will leave feeling different to how you arrived.

Swimming Kayaking Fishing Bushwalking
A gentle stroll to a local swimming spot in the warmer months or a strenuous hike up to the fire trail and on and on through the Ku-ringai National Park may interest some. A swim at the Basin, accessed in a number of ways from the property, will blow you away. The famous Basin - a playground for safe swimming, fishing, snorkelling, kayaking and stand up paddle boarding.
Explore the National Park which is also a national treasure of Aboriginal history. In front of the house is a spectacular rock carving and out the back caves and a shell midden. Kayaking (2 kayaks are available for guests)

Adventures Nearby
Here are some details about the adventures nearby. Refer to the map for their location.

Portuguese Beach
We hiked to Portuguese beach up through the meanders of Ku-Ring-Gai National Park, home to wildlife and historic aboriginal art. At the peak we found a vantage point helping us spot some ideal swimming holes, where we later explored by foot and kayak.

The Basin
Tucked away in the meanders of Pittwater, The Basin is an isolated gem on the fringe of the National Park, a camping ground only accessible by boat - populated by friendly wildlife and shaded by Australian natives.

Ferry
We love spending time on the water and the drowned valley estuary of Pittwater is a great spot to do so. You don’t need your own boat or kayak to get around, when there’s two ferry services running, one around Pittwater and the other all the way to the Central Coast.

The Boathouse
A charming beachside cafe in the original Barrenjoey Boathouse. Oysters and a seafood platter took our fancy on the timber deck overlooking Station Beach.
