Treehouse Getaway
Adventure in Great Mackerel Beach, Sydney, NSW, AU
Thanks Mercedes-Benz for supporting this story.
Accessible only by ferry, we travelled to Palm Beach wharf, to sail across to the picturesque Mackerel Beach.
Upon arriving, we borrowed one of the communal wheelbarrows left at the wharf and began the stroll across the beach to our accommodation high in the trees overlooking the bay.
Once we reached the cabin, we opened the balcony doors to enjoy the sunset and take in the panoramic views. The treetop cabin came with everything we could have needed and more.

Things We Did
- Fish
- Lookout
- Beach
- Scenic Drive
Just a short stroll across the beach from the cabin, we ventured to the Cape Mackerel wharf to go fishing. Catching leather jacket, brim and flat head every 10 minutes. It was an eventful morning spent fishing. We later enjoyed two of the fish freshly grilled with a glass of wine.

Only a stone throw from the property and visible from the balcony is one of the most impressive looks outs on the Mackerel trail walking track. We climbed the short incline and enjoyed the view across the bay without having to complete the Basin track.

After dinner, we enjoyed the warm evening by heading down to the beach and swimming in the ocean. An intimate beach, we were the only ones there and had the whole beach to ourselves.
Just across the water from Cape Mackeral are the beautiful northern beaches and the coastal road that winds alongside it. Get the drive-in early, and you will be able to watch a beautiful sunrise over the ocean with very few cars on the road. Some of my favourite viewpoints along this road are South Avalon carpark, North Bilgola Lookout and Long Reef.
Spend the day making your way from Palm Beach down the coast and get some pumping waves, and there's a massive selection to choose from.
